My search for the right protein is over...
I was an Optimum Whey guy for years and after starting a family I started to get more conscious about where my food was coming from. The crazy amount of artificial ingredients and metals in their formula made me realize I couldn't use their product anymore. Especially since my daughter wants a sip of my smoothie 90% of the time. This protein can be used for people who want to feed their muscles after a nice workout or start their day with a healthy breakfast...I like to use it for both. My review is also specific to this specific flavor...much better than their "Vanilla" flavor which has too much stevia for my tastebuds. The whey is 100% derived from grass fed cows. I emailed their customer service and they would typically respond within a day or two. I wanted to make sure there was no crazy marketing and that 100% of the whey came from 100% of grass fed cows. And I can confirm that it does. They are also working on non-GMO verification and hope to have that soon, but it is a costly and lengthy process as many know. This product is non-GMO though. I don't know why other reviewers keep harping on the soy...I don't have an issue with limited amounts of soy, but this product contains zero soy and has for some time. It contains non-GMO sunflower lecithin. MCT oil is just pressed coconut or palm oil typically...I didn't ask, but I may send an email on that. MCT oil is actually sold as a health supplement on its own. So the ingredient profile is low, the whey is derived from grass fed cows, and there are no GMOs. Those are the main things I look for now in a protein. I was using Source Organic Whey for a little while, but they are almost double the price. If money is no object you can't wrong with Source. Bluebonnet is a little larger company than Source and can afford to sell for less. I like supporting the little guy, but 50% less is just too much to ignore and it is not like Bluebonnet is a fortune 500. And then taste...I prefer my protein to have very little taste. I mix with a variety of fruit and your other typical smoothie staples...peanut butter, yogurt, cinnamon, or whatever I'm feeling that day. A lot of the new proteins that are trying to use responsible ingredients include stevia and that just dominates the drink to me. This pairs great with fruit and does not take over the taste. I would consider it very mild. I would never call it delicious on its own with water or milk, but I wouldn't call it bad either. Again...very mild. So from a guy who has used Optimum Whey, Optimum Platinum, Muscle Milk, Bluebonnet Vanilla, Source Organic, Jay Robb's (I think that is the name) and a few more, this is my absolutely number one seed when all is said and done.

Best Protein Powder... EVER!!!
This is AMAZING!!!!!! I love, love, love this protein powder. I've probably tried about 40-50 different ones, and this is hands down THE BEST! It's super fine and dissolves immediately. It's not pasty, it doesn't clump, it's perfect! It's as fine as talc. You can just put 1 scoop in a bottle with some almond milk, cold brew coffee... shake it up-- and viola! An low-cal, protein packed latte! You don't need to use a blender like many powders. No grainy/gritty taste at all! I put it in all my blended fruit smoothies, pancakes, oatmeal -- everything! It smells like cake mix... but it doesn't have any sugar! None of those nasty tasting sweeteners. All the flavor is coming from whatever your putting it into. I got several of my co-workers hooked on this. They love it too! It's expensive, but highly worth it! It's also the only protein powder I can get my husband to eat/drink. Try some, you won't be disappointed. YUM!!!

Good quality, few ingredients.
Nice clean whey protein. I add to yoghurt and mix well before adding liquids (vanilla and maple syrup). Otherwise it gets lumpy. Perhaps a mechanical mixer would work as well.

Good, but expensive
I have tried a few other unflavored whey proteins and this is by far the best I've tried. For me, the criteria for whey protein is pretty simple: 1) Needs to mix well - this one mixes very well with a spoon and a little water (always mixes better with water than anything else), 2) Needs to not taste bad - ok, it doesn't need to taste GOOD, but it shouldn't taste bad. This one actually tastes GOOD! I think because it's smooth with a neutral taste, but there is vanilla in the ingredients to give it just a hint of vanilla. Not strong, but just enough that it tastes pleasant. 3) Needs not to have a lot of crazy ingredients - Ok, this has some soy lecithin. For me, I don't care. Almost everything has soy lecithin. But it doesn't have any sucralose or anything else. 4) Not too expensive - this one is on par (cost per gram of protein) as most of the other protein powders. UPDATE: I downgraded my rating of this. I tried it again and it was hard to stomach alone. It's still a high quality protein, but I don't think it's worth the extra price. Now I use NOW Protein.

Tastes good. Unsweetened
Easy to make and it gives no aftertaste. Not sweet and I like it to be like that. The vanilla flavor is subtle.

Great- original flavor is best for my health
I started with the vanilla, which is delicious. I also felt better, because I don't get enough protein. Then I started realizing the stevia gives me horrible insomnia, which immediately stopped when I ran out. Then I tried the original, no flavor, no stevia flavor. It's not bad like some people say. Doesn't taste like a milkshake, but does not really have flavor. Can easily be added to smoothies if you can't handle throwing it in some water real quick like I tend to do.

Delicious!
I recently started doing P90x and wanted whey isolate to add to my post workout smoothie. I searched for days for a whey powder that I would actually want to consume on a daily basis. That meant that I wanted something tasty but without any artificial flavors/sweeteners and no added sugars. Sounds simple, right? Wrong! Most powders did not meet these criteria and even "natural" ones still had stevia in the ingredient list. Dealbreaker. I finally came across Bluebonnet's Whey Protein Isolate (Original). Short and simple ingredient list: Undenatured whey protein isolate, natural vanilla flavor. I was considering The Organic Whey (which is a concentrate, not isolate), and while I usually do not mind paying a premium for quality goods, it was Bluebonnet's pricing that won me over. $37 for 2.2 lbs. Compare that with Organic Whey's 1.5 lb for $65. In the end, I'm very happy I went with Bluebonnet. Opening the tub is like walking into a bakeshop--smells heavenly. And it tastes great! I blend 3/4 scoop of the whey isolate with some ice, a little nonfat milk (roughly 1/3 C), and half a banana. (This is why added sugar was a big no-no for me; milk and banana already provide that.) I was shocked when I made my first drink. I could not believe that something so tasty could be so healthy. Seriously, it was delicious! Like HarryPotterMagicBroomstickICantBelieveItsNotButter delicious. Okay, terrible comparison because I hate I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, but it was unbelievably good, and I am still amazed every time I have one. So, during a sweat-filled, heavy panting workout where I'm crying halfway through because...well darnit I'm only halfway through...I remind myself that I have a delicious drink waiting for me at the end.
