Like strong female characters + spy type thrillers? You'll love this.
When I find an author that I like, I tend to read everything - repeat, everything - that author produces. This was the first book I read by Bob Mayer, and - I confess - I stumbled across this gem by accident.I follow a lot of authors on social media. Some have written some great books which I've read. Some post great content which makes me suspect I'd enjoy their books. Bob Mayer falls into the second category. I ran across him and liked what he posted which eventually led me to actually search out his books.I had found myself in a reading rut. Those suggestions - if you like this, you'll love THAT - often leave me wanting to pound the screen in frustration. I don't want to read the same story with the same types of characters over and over. I wanted to read something new, something unique in my experience, and I found it here in the first book about the Cellar.I don't want to ruin the story for anyone who hasn't read the book, so I want to keep this brief. Do you enjoy strong female characters? You may enjoy this book. Do you enjoy stories that don't follow the set formulas for adventure/spy novels? You might enjoy this book. Do you want a story that constantly keeps you guessing? You'll LOVE this book. One note - in every book by this author, there is a lot of specific info about various firearms, modes of transportation, military branches, etc. I'm fine with this, but if it bothers you to read specifics then heads up - you can easily gloss over this into and keep on going with the main storyline.I give it five stars. I've been reading a lot by this author. I'll be reviewing more of his works. Heads up - if you find yourself hooked, the author has a website where you can often find free/discounted titles + a reader's guide. I highly recommend diving into these characters and their stories. You may finds yourself like me - staying up way too late to read just one more chapter.

Nothing boring about this one!
That was the most exciting book I've read in quite a while.i thought it would be like "Agnes and the hit man". It was not. It was so much better. And I loved Agnes.

Enjoyed it enough to read the second book of the series
Since this is book one of two in The Cellar Series, I waited until I had both books in my queue before reading it. I’m always leery of getting caught up with a cliffhanger ending and wanted to be sure that I had a whole book before beginning it. Happily, I can report that both books in this series can be read as stand alone novels. This first book introduces the reader to two very strong women. It is so nice to read an action book where the females are intelligent enough to resolve problems without depending upon a romantic male lead for rescue. There is a lot of military style jargon and weaponry but the plot is well developed so there is a mystery behind the tactical actions. There is, of course, a shadowy government black ops branch, The Cellar, which will appeal to conspiracy theorists, and provides support for the women in their quest. The book had a satisfying ending but I was interested enough in the characters to read the second book, Lost Girls, which I also enjoyed.

A very good read
This book earned 5 stars from me because I enjoyed it so muchIn some respects, it is a run of the mill spy versus spy conspiracy novel. Nothing really wrong with that genre if you like those kind of books and I do.Other reviewers had some minor criticisms, and they are valid, but overall they don't detract all that much from the enjoyment of the story. You won't be able to find more enjoyment for the $2.99 the Kindle edition costs if you are a fan of this genre. The surprise ending was a surprise to me until the end, even though in retrospect there were a fair number of clues along the way.Like most of this genre, you have to suspend disbelief a lot of the time to get through the book. But to me that is part of the fun. Much of the action can't happen, but it is well written enough that even though some part of my brain was saying "can't happen", I was still enjoying reading it, and almost believing. This is part 1 of a 4 book series on the organization known as "The Cellar". The Cellar is a super secret part of the NSA (at least its offices are physically located there) that tries to tweak things going on in the world to protect the USA.The author effective turns the Blackhawk Down story around some and adds some background details that makes one of the oddest military operations the US has engaged in understandable. I personally suspect just random stupidity is what really caused the disaster, but the author made his version quite plausible.Read and enjoy.

anticipation
This book kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Lots of twists and turns. Really liked how the characters were written, I was drawn in and wanted to get to the ending and yet didn’t really want it to be over.

Middle Eastern Roots and DC Politics
Great read. This book appeals to the readers with an appreciation of spy novels, intelligence operations and conspiracy plots. The author lays a full course of conspiracy twists and turns throughout his story. The plot builds in one direction and then throws the reader a different, although not unsurprising, final twist in the end.

Needs Just a Bit More Editing
This isn't my usual genre of book, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The plot was complicated but not so much so that it was difficult to follow. Mr. Mayer's attention to developing all the major characters really drew me into them and their parts in the story. That involvement made it difficult to put down. The book description gives potential readers what they need, so I won't give more for fear of ruining the story for them. I would have given it 5 stars, but for some editing problems. The thing I found most annoying was the juxtaposition of the names of the two major characters. Neely was called Hannah numerous times, and vice versa. On several occasions I had to go back several pages to be sure who was saying and doing what. All in all, I highly recommend the book...it's a very enjoyable read.

A satisfying, intelligent, twisting novel
Introducing two very different women to a complex web of intrigue where nothing is quite as it seems makes for a tremendous read. As in other books by Bob Mayer, clever twists on actual historical events lend credence to a fast-paced and exciting plot. Even odd errors in the text cannot take away from the gripping nature of the story. I'll certainly be searching out the next book in the series.

Loved this Book, it made a change from " I am a SAS Man so therefore I am a Legend " Book. Simple to understand, fast paced and very well written.

Couldn’t stop reading it.
The twist and turns keep you guessing and are not predictable so you have to read the next chapter. The characters were very believable. Another excellent read as is expected from Cool Gus.
