UPDATE: The two more I ordered are identical to the first. I washed the first one in warm water and air dried it ... it shrunk a bit, just like the government issue. That always seemed to make them a little warmer, I guess because the shrink makes them denser. I have a 7/58 hat size - I like the fit better after washing. The outer tag says, Genuine Government Issue, 100% Wool, Watch Cap, Made to Department of Defense Specifications, and the inner tag says Made in USA. It certainly looks, and feels like the ones I'm familiar with. I ordered two more. I read a lot of the reviews before buying, including one saying that theirs was not wool as evidenced by the fact that a thread melted ... frankly, I wouldn't know how to tell the difference myself, but I did find a lose thread on the seam inside and it most definitely did not melt. DO NOT light a thread still attached to the cap ... I didn't want a melted blob inside the cap so I cut it off with scissors before lighting it. It caught fire and immediately burned up. Whether or not that is a legit test for wool, I have no clue other than the comment I read that made me test it. I'd hate to see someone catch their cap on fire. Someone questioned the color ... it looks black until you put it against something that is black. It is a very dark blue, just like military issue. With regard to thickness and warmth ... this is thick and warm as a wool watch cap should be. It is not like those thingy's they sell at stores. Bottom line ... It is exactly what I was trying to buy and I am sure it will serve wonderfully well keeping my head warm on the boat.

I wear a 7,1/4 size hat. These caps fit snugly with room to spare ! They ( I bought two ) are warm, as real wool should be. They are long enough to form a cuff of at least a 3 inches to 4 inches all around and pull it over my ears back down to the bottom of the back of my neck. There are a lot of civilian caps out there that look great but basically you just freeze. This is much better. I was all of my 'wool' clothing by hand. I haven't washed these yet but expect no problems. Here are my washing rules: 1) Wash in cold water with a Woolite type product - eg. Woolwash. 2) Rinse with cold water and squeeze (DO NOT WRING) out rinse water. 3) Lay on cotton bath towel and roll - to soak out more rinse water. 4) Lay flat to dry on a screen so it can air out both sides. 5) Under no circumstances do NOT put it in a washing machine or dryer !!! The only 'con' is that this type of wool can be slightly 'itchy'. It may bother some, but not me. I highly recommend these caps !!

A little on the itchy side which is to be expected for wool, but you can't complain for how warm and cheap it is. The weave is quite dense so it's not horrible in direct wind as long as it's above 20F or so, any colder and I'd upgrade to something more substantial like an ushanka. I appreciate how long the hat is as well, many beanies nowadays are far too short, this one is long enough for you to double it up all the way to the crown of your head. I wear a 7 1/4 hat for reference. Highly recommended buy, even if it's to just throw in a bug out bag or your vehicle.

A nice watch cap for the price. I have a large head,so the fit is a little tight,but the cap is flexible enough to fit snugly about my ears. I like the looks,warmth and price of watch caps,so I have several for the cold winter months ahead. I know this cap is going to get a lot of use this winter.

I loved the cap. It is a real Navy 100% wool. I had it for over a year and then my wife washed it. Now it fits my baby grandson. Please dry clean only it is worth the cost. The wool is warn and not scratchy. I can pull it down over my ears to keep the warm also. Today I ordered a new one for the winter.

Good cap, but small. I was hoping to get a replacement for the one I lost. Seems to be good quality. But it fits really tight. By some of the reviews that seems to be the way it goes with these. I was hoping for one that "fit", didn't work out. A slip in the packaging said "IRREGULARS" so that is most likely why it fits for some and not for others.

I'm very pleased with this purchase and will be buying another! This is a very nice wool cap. I don't know what kind of wool is used to make it, but it itches less than merino wool caps I've owned, and the smaller double-layer knit makes it feel very soft, stretchy and warm. I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't come in more colors, but that's understandable seems how the U.S.N. isn't known for offering a lot of color options in it's uniforms.

This is the best toque I've ever bought for one main reason: it covers my ears completely without covering my eyes. It is very warm (haven't been with it in full winter yet, but I can tell). It's a little itchy because it's wool, but I am also bald so that doesn't help.

Snug I wear (7 5/8)but comfortable. Came in slightly damaged. Not bad for the price.

Haven't washed it yet and will be very careful when I do. Happy with it so far. Warm and lots of length to cover your ears if need be. Looks pretty good I'm told.
