I decided to order this book to supplement some of my classroom lessons on logic and design. The tutorials are easy to follow along with and their is clear and concise explanation to a novice. I highly recommend to use this within your instructional plan or own your own to get a better a quality grasp on App Inventor.

Outdated Content Refers to OLD Versions of App Inventor
Back in 2013, this may have been a good purchase. It's now 2018 which this eBook talks about outdated software. It becomes very confusing to follow if you're a newbie to coding. The components this book references don't exist anymore for instance. When the book addresses creating variables, it uses the term/phrase "Definitions" shown on the block of code. A beginner is going to look for that. Because they can't find it, they will become frustrated not knowing what they should be creating is called "initializing a global variable or creating a variable".

Android App Inventor for the Absolute Beginner
Another reviewer already mentioned that the online resources are unavailable. A week later these resources are still unavailable, rendering this book worthless to me. I paid to have the book rushed to me as I had a short window open in my schedule that I would be able to dedicate to this. Unfortunately that window is now closing and my money was wasted. Shame on the publisher - I feel sorry for the authors.

Can't find the Assets for the Chapters!!!
The book is easy enough to follow, and I really enjoyed seeing my app take shape on my phone while using App Inventor, but the fun quickly ended when I couldn't find the required resources (images, sound files, etc.) for the chapters. The book directs you to "[...] to find the corresponding material, but I checked and I could not find anything at all. I'm very frustrated by this and hope that I can figure out something as I really hate to spend money for nothing!!!

Easy to follow directions
Well written and easy to follow directions. Wish the font was larger but I'm an old man and the font size probably doesn't bother most people. Excellent for someone who just wants to dabble in creating apps.

I too gave it up after I couldn't find the source code. May I will come back to it sometime after trying other books.

For those unable to find the companion site.
Cengage bought out delmar a while back and they've made changes to their site (I know because I've purchased 2 Python books and plan to purchase this as well in the near future)Use delmarlearning companions start and then search for the title of the book there. (This book's downloadable data is available as that was one thing I've verified in looking into this book)I'm going to give this a 5 star as the other books have all been excellent and I'm sure this one will be as well.

I should have read the other reviews a bit more closely...
Most people have already mentioned it here and I would say heed to their warnings.App Inventor 2 is already out - making this book outdated and a bit harder to follow along. Even from the first app you are suppose to build, the resources you need are not available - it's a separate project. The old tutorials were a bit hidden on the site, but you can find it through support > get started > look towards the bottom of the page "App Inventor 1 is still available...".All in all, I would not recommend this book.

Get the right version of the app to go with it.
It's good but you need to make sure you have the right App to go with it as there are a few updated versions since this book was written. It's a good way to learn.

Out of Date
Support for App Inventor will disappear in the next few days! Get a book on App Inventor 2! The link to the resources doesn't work - but you can find them here: http://www.delmarlearning.com/companions/content/1285733339/companionfiles/index.asp?isbn=1285733339

Beware - Out of Date
Although OK for following basic instructions it gives little insight into actual Android programming. But its main fault is that it is obsolete. Although the book was published fairly recently in July 2013, MIT (the creators of App Inventor) updated App Inventor in December 2013. Therefore, the 'coding' examples shown in the book often do not match that in App Inventor. If you have some programming knowledge I guess you could work round it but if you a complete beginner it would be most off-putting. Shame.
