This microscope was an excellent buy.
This microscope is an excellent buy. When I install the package and immediately started to use it to weld a really small piece of a cell plate and was quite comfortable and easy to work with him and I could do my job effectively. Excellent product. I think it was a very good buy.

Unsafe Overheating
I am Very Happy with this Stereo Microscope. It is Fantastic for viewing Insects and Rocks. The ONLY problem (A Very Big Problem) is it does not get warm like the dozens of scopes I used in the Workplace over the years, it gets as hot as My Air Popcorn Popper (exaggeration but not much).I am not using this scope much at all. Living in a small RV, I feel the danger of fire is too great and I can't put the Cover back on the scope until it cools down.My advice is to get a scope with LED lighting. LED's get hot also but not near as much.Live and Learn.

a nice value. Be cautious of the lamp
Works well, a nice value. Be cautious of the lamp, it gets very hot and is easy to burn yourself on. The table on this scope is static so you're going to need to move the specimen by hand. I use this for small-pitch circuit board examination and fine soldering work.

Very good.
The microscope works very well. I am a professional scientist and the optics on this are as good as any professional quality instrument for this magnification. It comes with 2 bulbs installed and 2 spare bulbs. I only wish they had built in a place to keep the spare bulbs and stage plate. However, it's a lot smaller than I imagined, the product pictures do not give a good sense of scale.

This is an excellent quality instrument
This is an excellent quality instrument. If you are unsure of whether a compound or stereo microscope is more fun for children, definitely start with a stereo scope like this one. Being able to grab any random bug, bit of food, or rock and see it immediately with no slide prep is key.I took these photos with an iPhone looking right through the microscope. They are the mint mark on a nickel, the seeds inside a blueberry, and the pixels from the battery icon on a smart phone.

The supplied WF20X eyepieces make this scope unusable!
The supplied WF20X eyepieces make this scope unusable!I do not recommend this microscope as configured. The WF20x eyepieces are totally worthless, making the scope unusable! The eye-point or eye-relief (distance from eyepiece to eye) is much too short. Even when not wearing glasses, and even with the comfort rubber eye-guards removed, it was impossible for me to get my eye close enough to the lens of the eyepieces to see a full field of view. I could manage, with difficulty, to see a very small portion of the intended field of view, approx 15% of the area the scope was designed to show. It was like looking at a room through a keyhole. It's not adequate enough to even use the stereoscopic feature of the scope.I have tested the scope with 3 other sets of various power eyepieces I own, and the scope worked fine with all of those. So this is definately an eyepiece issue. To make maters worse, the supplied WF20X eyepieces have a tall ridge circling the eyepiece lens, and that lip contributes to making it impossible to get your eyes close enough. Maybe it will work with some children, but it is worthless with my head. Though, I use microscopes a lot, and never had this problem with any other scope. I am flabbergasted as to why this combination of scope and eyepieces would be offered. Was it not tested with many people? It "may" be possible to successfully use WF10X 30.5mm eyepieces with this model, since those should have a higher eye-point? Or a set of 20X 30mm extremely widefield eyepieces design for eyeglass users (with some tape to get 30.5 mm diameter). Unfortunately, you can't be sure without purchasing, and doing your own testing.Though, I am keeping the scope, since other than the dysfunctional eyepieces, the scope is fine, built well and a good value, even though, I will need to purchase different eyepieces. Not happy about that. Also note, if you wish to use a LED ring light with this microscope, the manufacturer does not offer a solution. None of the LED ring lights they sell can be mounted on this model, they told me. That is a design flaw in my opinion.

Excited 10 year old Grandson when he opened this gift.
My grandson was so excited when he started looking at the slides I ordered to look at with this Microscope. It was so much fun watching him look and share with me and his brothers and sisters things like bee's knees and rabbit blood. He has had a cheaper one that we looked at things like scum and spit, but we could see a difference. We can with this new one. It was a very reasonable price. It arrived fast and well packaged.

Not a great microscope, needs work
I really wanted to like this microscope but its not all that great.First the glass plate for transmissive specimens seems to be extremely course. Thus you can see the grain of the grind superimposed on what you are looking at.There is a very small window where that disappears mostly but I can still see it slightly.I will be regrinding the glass plate with fine grit to hopefully smooth it out.The tungsten bulbs are really old technology and should have been upgraded to LED's to make this more useful.Probably something I will have to do.The optics, no matter how I adjust them are uncomfortable to see through. They don't really make 1 spot as much as a tunnel you are looking through.Other then that, its very solid and looks to be well built. For a beginner scope, its probably fine but for my uses, its needs a lot of work. That said, I will probably keep it and make the much needed improvements.
