When these strings are labeled "practice," they are not kidding. While these strings are quite cheap and affordable--it shows. One could have an excellent bow and it would not redeem the vague raspy tone from these strings. They are able to be tuned and played barely, that is the standard these strings meet but it is not surprising given the price. I'd recommend Prelude strings as an alternative budget option for a beginning student.

Tinny sound. OK for a beginning student on a tight budget, but upgrade as soon as possible. I would not use these on my cello.
