Worth breaking out the flip-flops
I'm a Dudeist or at least a Taoist right down to my flip-flops. This is a great book for die-hard fans of "The Big Lebowski". For those of us who have bowled the Way for a while longer, the Dudist version of the chapters is a bit of a stretch to make the Tao Te Ching fit the movie. I don't know if that speaks very highly of the movie that it comes close enough to the Tao Te Ching that the stretch can be made so well...or if it speaks to the timeless, ageless, stretchy wisdom of the original work. The book has real value, though, as a re-interpretation of Taoism in terms modern American culture.

Outdated Version
This is not The Dude De Ching you are looking for.*waves hand like a Jedi*This is the out of print version that The Church of the Latter Day Dude no longer endorses. They have a brand new edition, released at the end of 2015, that won't cost you nearly as much as used copies of this edition will. If you're interested in learning about dudeism, buy the new version and visit dudeism.com for more information. However, from a scholarly point of view, it's interesting to have the outdated version to compare to the current one.

Very cute, worth .99 cents, not bad if you're a Lebowski fan.
This is a re-packaging, of sorts, of the Tao Te Ching. It has one chapter of witticisms and phrases culled from the movie, "The Big Lebowski", sort of put together in ways that re-phrase in parlance of our times, the original chapter of the Tao that follows, alternatingly. If you're a fan of the Dude, this is kind of cute, and it gave me a desire to read the original. If you're not such a fan, you might not think it's cute. Could have spent a worse 99 cents.

Read all three books.
Very good, humorous and enlightening. It is amazing how the teachings of the Dude just fit right in there with the Tao Te Ching. In order to get the most out of reading this book, however, one should read it in the context of the other two "Dude" books: The Dude and the Zen Master, and The Abide Guide, Living Like Lebowski. They like hold the whole philosophy together, and give you a clearer, more complete view of like the Dude's opinion, man.

Really a wonderful book
While arguably some of the meaning of the Tao te Ching was lost in the transition to Dudefication, this hardly makes a difference as the original passages (rendered in English) are featured on the pages opposite of every Dudefied page (for clarity of meaning). It's a great way to use humor to advance one's knowledge as well as spark an interest in Taoism, as well as Zen and Tibetan Buddhism.I would certainly recommend this book to anybody interested in good reference humor and even better philosophy.Abide on,Reverend Vitki Jafnhar

That Dude Really Ties The Tao Together!
I love the movie and am amused to see how "The Dude" has become an archetype of sorts for the "Take it Easy" approach. That aside I am also somewhat familiar with the Tao Te Ching. To see these two thrown together, I thought was going to be at best a cheesy homage to the movie. However, I was astonished to see how well the spirit of the Tao Te Ching is actually captured using the story and the characters from the film. My compliments to the Church of the Latter Day Dude for for doing an absolute bang up job.

Goos goofy advice for the Dudeist!
A take on the Tao de Ching. Includes those particular translations. As a practicing Dudeist and believer in Christ, I blend the teachings of Christ with the Taoisms here and they are a perfect fit for a better world for all of us.But, like, "that's just my opinion man..."

Essential dudeist text
This manifesto, dudes, is of essence. You need to know The Film though. So get the film, and then get the text but also consult it with good translation for the interpolation within the text is questionable, dudes. Cheere'yo.

More straight faced than I was expecting.
If you want to read the Tao Te Ching then this could be a fun alternative for Lebowski fans. If you're just after some more Dudeism or Lebowski fun then you might find this quite boring.Basically it gives a Tao Te Ching chapter, which is kind of like a poem or short one page story, then follows it up with the Dudeism version. Then onto the next Tao Te Ching chapter and so on.
