My Brilliant Friend [DVD] [2018]

Very involving story and as far as I can tell, true to life. It shows all too well how little females are respected.I will be ordering series 2 & 3. I shall have to wait for the final series four later in 2024. I am able to get by with Italian but thank's to the subtitles I was able to follow the Neapolitan dialect.

I recently bought and read the novel My Brilliant Friend having a love of Italy I found the writing had greatdepth, knowing that HBO had made a drama I had to purchase the DVD, and I have not been disappointedwe begin when the two friends are children then progress to their teenage years I have to praise whoeverchose the leading young actresses as they are so alike the girls that played the parts as younger friends.If you have a passion for Italy this is the drama for you I cannot praise it highly enough.I look forward to viewing the second series, the adaptation deserves to win many awards.

Very interesting story and acting is very good, i have ordered the second series, that's how much i enjoyed it, first rate.

Frankly, I am not a fan of TV series.However they do allow for sustaining character development and this Italian saga tracing the lives of two women from childhood to maturity in the slums of Naples from the late 1940s, employs the genre to great effect. Peerless acting and a unique milieu painstakingly brought to life make this a ‘must see’. I cannot recommend it highly enough.And if the prospect of subtitles deters you, you’ll find yourself so engrossed that you won’t even notice them. Prepare to be beguiled.

This series is so well acted and is a perfect adaptation of the novel it’s based on. It really draws you in to the stories of the two friends as they develop their relationship from early childhood. Thoroughly recommended.

An absolutely excellent TV series rendition of the first book.Cant wait until the next instalment.

I Absolutely LOVE This Drama!! An Italian Neapolitan story set in the fifties its poignant, realistic about the times, the poverty and the struggle people had in Naples with day today life and the Camorra.The acting is Fantastic with unknown actors and extras. The 2 leads are Terrific! They will be future stars.Looking forward to season 2 as this is one of my FAVOURITE shows EVER!

Having read Elena Ferranti’s “My Brilliant Friend” the DVD was a good portrayal of the story and the characters very well cast and acted. The film is in Italian and has subtitles which could put some people off. Also the action is quite slow in parts - lots of long looks between characters. It is in 8 episodes of one hour each.

My favorite part is when the two girls are younger in school. The subtitles are essential since we seem to hear napolitan dialect (am I right?). I could understand italian but not napolitano.

As much I have enjoyed the books this is a extremely well made movie. Often haven read the book before you get disappointed with the movie but that is not the case here. Totally worth it.

Although I made the order through amazon Australia the DVD is Region 2 therefore I am not able to play it.

Total waste of money.Who knew it couldn’t be played on a regular DVD.It’s European technology only and how is a customer supposed to know there’s a difference.It should be stated upfront.I’m stuck with something totally unusable and it would cost more than I originally spent to return.
