Healthier Gluten-Free: All-Natural, Whole-Grain Recipes Made with Healthy Ingredients and Zero Fillers

This book is fantastic!
When our doctor recommended a gluten-free diet for my son with Autism I was appalled. Have you ever read the ingredients in gluten-free bread, pretzels, or baked goods of any kind? Tapioca, potato starch, rice flour, corn starch--starch, starch, and more starch! Just reading it is enough to send my blood sugar through the roof! I immediately set out to find gluten-free recipes that are truly healthy and have a low glycemic index. After ordering 6 books through Amazon, and trying dozens of crappy recipes from internet blogs, this is the only source that I have found that satisfies my criteria for gluten-free, healthful, and tasty food. The recipes are delicious! I applaud Lisa Howard for writing a cookbook with impeccably well-tested recipes. She has clearly tested each and every one, and they do not fail! More people should eat the way Lisa Howard cooks. Be prepared, however, to revolutionize your pantry. This way of cooking requires flours and ingredients that most kitchens do not have on hand.

Highly Recommended for Both Gluten-Free and Restriction-Free Eaters
I am not a a gluten free diet, but I love this book for its variety. The instructions are simple and easy to follow, even on a busy weekday night. The recipes range from completely unique to twists on well-known favorites. The Thai Pork and Ginger Meatballs use nut flours instead of bread crumbs and quickly became a staple in our kitchen. The Crispy Pan-Fried Chickpeas can provide a surprisingly simple lunch in around fifteen minutes. One of my favorite recipes, the South-of-the-Border Quinoa Bowl, is a healthy and versatile version of a burrito bowl.I highly recommend this book for both the kitchen novice and the experienced chef. The first forty pages provide an introduction to the gluten-free lifestyle, and and overview of the nutritious ingredients used in Lisa's recipes. The remainder of the book is full of a diverse spread of recipes accompanied by colorful photos.

Life is an adventure, and so is traveling down the road of healthy living.
(As a dad who cooks), I got an early copy of this wonderful book, and all I can say so far is that I have a new found inspiration for healthy living, and a desire to try each recipe as part of my new found love of great healthy food. Each recipe (all 108 of them - with many gorgeous pictures) are unique, and 'crafted' like works of art. Ideas that never occurred to me.There is a feeling of adventure here, and I am 'all in' to join along.I'll write more later, once I've traveled further through the book with my family.UPDATE: July 31stI have now started to stock my cupboards with healthy ingredients, and pitched many that aren't. I'm not all about Gluten-Free, as much as I am about healthy foods. Gone is processed peanut butter, and such. At Costco, I bought Coconut Oil (2 big tubs for $23, and Natural Peanut Butter). Last Night, I made Curry Chicken with natural ingredients (grilled chicken with garlic, onion in coconut oil, then cut up tomatoes from my garden, then stewed together, and added yellow mild curry. Then I put in coconut milk and brown sugar and simmered for 15 mins. Scooped onto whole long grain rice. Also, I baked small cubes of sweet potatoes at 400F for 40 mins (with coconut oil, salt / pepper). It was awesome with the curry chicken. And guess what?... My kids Loved it! And only at one portion because we were full (i.e. nourished). How Fun is great cooking?!! Cooking like this takes food from being a chore to being something that I can now involve my kids in the process. Teaching moments, time together.

American - and not "Healthy"!
I am absolutely gutted that I was persuaded to part with even a small amount of cash for this travesty of a healthy(sic) eating book! It's American, with American measurements and American names for the ingredients. No attempt has been made to adapt it for the British market. Worse, it demonstrates all that is unhealthy about the standard American diet - Huge portions, copious amounts of meat and dairy products, and over-sweetened puddings! I don't even feel that I should pass this one on to a charity shop. In the paper recycling is where it will be going!
