The Hurt & The Healer

Worthwhile with some minor exceptions.
I found that I didn't agree completely with what was in the first part up to the middle of page 44. It seems to me that this is the same rhetoric that I heard in church for years. Try harder, quit sinning, be more like Jesus, let God run your life. With no clue how to do it. God knows I gave it my best shot for years and years. I was tormented and couldn't make it go away. Everything I did but shouldn't have and everything I didn't do but should have haunted me 24/7/365. I went to church, read my bible, evangelized, prayed, but to no avail. As an example: I disagree with the motivation of Adam And Eve stated on page 23. I believe that they loved God and wanted to please Him. They ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge so that they might have knowledge of evil so as to avoid it. Thus pleasing God even more. Their desire and motivation in eating the fruit was to please God more. If we break one little rule but the end results are for the much greater good then surely it must be ok. I believe that lie is still being spread today. But, starting in the middle of page 44 we get some fundamental truths presented to us. For which I am grateful. So I would recommend this book with the disclaimer that you can start in the middle of page 44 and not miss anything worthwhile.

A Much Needed Oasis of Truth about Grace in a Desert of Religion
This book showed me essential life giving spiritual nutrition in a world full of moralizing, rules-filled, junk-food religion that looks appealing but delivers instead dead legalism and toxic self-righteousness. After reading the Hurt and the Healer, I could see again clearly why the Gospel is called "good news." Religion that offers "hope" only if you manage to toe the line and keep the rules isn't really good news because it still falls on our shoulders to carry the load and pay the price. Farley and Millard explain why we don't have to do that because of Jesus. The chapters are well written and concise. The study questions give a good opportunity for thinking more deeply about each chapter's content. For those of us who have been beaten up on this path of life, who are covered in the dust and grime of the earth, who are tired, thirsty and feeling like that hill up ahead is just too much to climb, when your feet feel too heavy to take that next step, then it is time to sit down, pull the Hurt and the Healer out of that backpack and drink until you are refreshed for the journey. This is what it is doing for me.

Wow, there are no words to describe this book except wonderful. It touches your soul and lets you know what others go through evenas small children. God has truly done a great work in Bart's Life and this book and the movie I'm sure have brought many to Christ or at least have made them stop and think about asking Jesus into their hearts. I highly recommend it. And the movie too. I saw it 6 times just because it made me feel like I was looking into my past. Thank you Bart for sharing your story with the world.

Healing is possible. Perfectly written
Absolutely spot on!! This book will enlighten you and bring you to a whole new level of thinking. Andrew really gets the point across about how much of our own thoughts get in the way of us healing. He speaks about how our emotions are controlled by our thoughts, but makes it clear that there is an important aspect of how emotions are a normal experience and we can't change them. He also hones in on the importance of forgiving others and ourselves and God for the hurt that has happened to us in order to find the healing. Especially important that we accept God's forgiveness and quite punishing ourselves.Another key point is knowing who we are in Christ and to stop seeking approval and acceptance from others. Each chapter ends with a focused prayer as well as some deep rooted questions for us to ask ourselves.

Such refreshing truths!
This is a greatly written book full of the simple truths of our identity in Jesus. I love the way it encourages us to be completely open & honest with our hurts, allowing us to bring them before our Lord to be completely healed. A miraculous thing happens when the Hurt & the Healer collide! I highly recommend it to everyone because we're ALL holding on to some source of pain that ONLY JESUS can really HEAL!

Love without borders, love with me forever
Bart Millard and Andrew Farley use the Scriptures to graciously draw out the common pain and hurt we experience in this life, and they address what we feel with God’s perfect and everlasting love, as shared in the Gospel. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Bart and Andrew for the time they took to put all of this together, and I highly recommend this book. Love from the Philippines, JB

My Hurt
God answered my prayer of hurt through the pages of this book. This past week brought some hurts to my memory which I had forgiven but as the books says, I have not forgotten. I asked God to put those memories in a better place and not in the forefront of my mind. He gave me a better prospective, a better place and for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you also Andrew and Bart.

This book is a life changwr
This is a must read for every stage in life. There are always times of hurt that we go through. If we know the truths that this book shares from God's Word, during those times we would have a better way to cope on those moments. I hope that even if you have doubts about reading this book or you don't like reading in general that you would pick it up in faith that it could help you. It definitely has helped me to overcome my hurts by giving them up to the healer!

The Hurt & The Healer is a great book because it speaks to two major issues
The Hurt & The Healer is a great book because it speaks to two major issues: The forgiveness we have in Jesus Christ and the fact that we are dearly loved children of God. It has helped me to become more secure in my identity as a beloved son through the healing of the wounds of life and the assurance that my wounds do not define me.

absolut gutes Buch
