83 Center Channel Speaker (Black)

I've had this speaker for 24 hours, so it's not even broken in yet, but right from the start the dialog in movies was crisp and articulate, and the bass was fast and tight. I can only assume everything will sound even better once there's a hundred hours or so on this speaker. At $79 the sound quality is stunning, on par with speakers that cost significantly more. I love the look of this speaker. The finish is lovely and the shape is more eye-catching than simply being yet another rectangular block. My only qualm, and it's a minor one, is the little "feet" at the front of the speaker. They look great and do what they need to do but I feel like Jamo missed a golden opportunity here to make these feet height adjustable. The shelf I have to put this on is a little low so if the speaker has to have feet anyway it would've been awesome if you could set the height to angle the speaker a bit. But this isn't a big deal; the majority of people will probably want their speaker to sit flat anyway. So yeah, for the money the speaker has great build quality, looks, and most importantly SOUND!

Delivered faster than expected, and packing condition was good. Sound is better than more expensive ones I had. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound produced by this speaker. The base sound is very good, the mid and high range is excellent. Recommend it to anyone who needs speaker.

Recently upgraded to the Jamo Studio Series from an aging and failing Boston Acoustics mini HTIB. Initially went with S807s and the S81 Cen up front, and S801s out back. Quickly found the S81 Cen just couldn't keep up. Dialog would often get "buzz-y" for lack of a better word. It honestly sounded like something was loose or wasn't mounted correctly, be it driver, grill, binding posts, or something else. However, even on close inspection I could never find anything wrong with it. After a bit more time on forums, reading reviews, etc. I came to the conclusion that I really should have splashed out for the S83 from the jump. Anyway, lesson learned! Okay, enough comparing the two. The S83 Cen is a good performer and keeps up with the s807 mains quite well. While there are moments where dialog could sound more "forward," I only have a few hours on it and imagine once the drivers are "broken in" it'll be that much better. Aesthetically, it has a high WAF and the magnetic grill is a nice touch. Grill off it looks great, too. Oh, and if black cabinets are too "heavy" in your space, the Walnut matches darker furniture well and still recede into the room nicely. All that said, go with the S81 Cen only if you're pairing with the S801 all around. Otherwise, the S83 Cen is easy to recommend given the price, performance, and that it's timbre matched to the rest of the lineup (naturally).

I wasn't sure that upgrading from the smaller center channel speaker to this one would make that big of a difference but it actually does. The center channel is much more pronounced now and does not get drowned out by the left and right bookshelf speakers that come with the 5.1 kit. Also the price on the S83 was less than the S81 for some reason so made it even better. Too bad I don't have a place for the S81 in my system. Sounds good and makes the dialog a lot clearer in movies.

Purchased this after my S 81 center channel blew. Always found that dialogue was a bit muffled and hard to hear with the S 81 that I had in my living room. Didnt want to pay a bunch of money to upgrade, but also didnt want to get an ugly center channel speaker. So when I needed a new center channel, I decided on this thinking it would just be the same as the other. This speaker is actually a big improvement. I was able to clearly hear dialogue and it seams to be a much better match to the s 803s than the S 81 was. Wish I made this upgrade earlier
