Mindstorms: Living with Traumatic Brain Injury

TBI Playbook
Having done my own research on TBIs before acquiring this book, i can relate so many stories to my mothers situation. This summed up her new life as well as mine as her caregiver. This book should be available in hospitals for families to have a better understanding of their loved ones new situation. Having this beforehand would have saved me from all the information scrounging I've done since her injury.

Excellent, easily understood informational source about TBI's for family members
Excellent overview of what traumatic brain injury is, types of injuries, and what one might expect from someone who has suffered a TBI. Even almost five years after my husband's fall more than 60 feet from a bluff, nearly 6 weeks in a coma, multiple operations, and rehab -- I recognize so many of the behaviors discussed here as part of my daily life with a brain injured man who many called a "miracle" for his survival and accomplishments since. He is NOT the man I married, however. And never will be. The information in this book is clear, peppered with vignettes of others who have suffered a variety of TBI's illustrating the information provided -- including behaviors, types of deficits, expectations, therapies, and more. Very helpful to those family members just starting out on this awful journey as a family member as well as a reminder to those, like myself, who have been on it awhile, that yes, it is crazy-making for the caregivers, too!

love this book
this was the first book I read after my injury. I love it and it helps a lot for families of survivors to read also to get a good understanding of why it seems that they have all these good ideas that can help you and not understand why it doesn't work just that easy. I have read it several times to refresh myself with the info and ideas also for motivation to not self blame when things don't go as expected by others. It is missing from my house and I have been looking for it forever. its up and walked away and I am actually really lost without it.

YES!
Because I write fiction and one of my characters is dealing with brain injury, I wanted a book that would tell it all. I found it here. Some of this will be irrelevant to those already familiar with the problems and current medical interventions, but the book is well arranged in compartmental segments that allow readers to skip through, reading only what they find applicable. It's a complete compendium of current scientific information on dealing with traumatic injury, very readable and nicely done.

MindStorms: Living with Traumatic Brain Injury
This book is brilliant, very well written and easy to understand. When a loved one suddenly has a catastrophic accident and has TBI (traumatic brain injury), you life is suddenly out of kilter. There's a whole new language being spoken, and you really need something like this book to be informed during a chaotic time. I'd recommend it to anyone with a brain injury. As for the seller, they got the book out to me in record time, it was in excellant condition, and I couldn't be more pleased. My copy was even signed by the author! Thanks so much for making this an affordable investment!Karen Z

Traumatic Brain Injury
My daughter suffered a traumatic brain injury last September. She has made tremendous progress since then however, there are still many issues she is faced with. Her courage and determination is astounding.Mindstorms is informative, well written, and yes, encouraging. The author goes into the many facets of brain injury in simple language. He explains the hardships that the patient endures to reach his or her greatest potential. The author brings understanding to the lay person and care giver from the medical and patient perspective. For those whose loved ones or friends have gone through traumatic brain injury this book gives great insight into the issues involved with TBI.

Very good presentation
Having recently needed to learn all about TBI, this book was great. The subject naturally carries emotion but this book is not distracted by it. In such an emotional time already, the professional focus keeps the info you need steadily flowing in.

Must have book for injury or stroke victims AND FAMILY
This book is the best written informational book I have read. I highly recommend that anyone who has had a stroke, bleed, injury, etc to do with the brain read this AND ESPECIALLY THE CARETALERS. It really helped answer a lot of lingering questions I had. My wife had a stroke in 09 and a major brain bleed in 10. It helps, you have to read this, and as a bonus it really reads fast and easy....some medical parts get a bit involved but like any book, read what you need to and skip what. You dpn.t.

Good read, I'd recommend for those who have family/friends who have experienced head trauma
Brother has suffered from a TMI and this was a good book to help provide some degree of understanding. I think this is more tailored to the major head trauma cases, moreso than those suffering from less severe trauma (but no less serious impact to their daily lives and those around them). I have medical knowledge, but the the author does write in such a way as anyone can understand.

Poor printing quality
Haven't finished reading the book yet so I can't give a proper review, but my copy is really hard to read. It appears that the printer was running out of ink.
