Living in Central Texas on the rocky escarpment I could only get about an inch or so of loose soil but it seems to be enough. I spotted grass sprouting this morning lots of grass. it's been 5 days since I laid the mats. Now it is on me to keep it moist as directed. Highly recommend as a cheaper alternative to sod... if you can and are willing to wait a few weeks. I have now used this product 3 times. Two of the three have been highly successful. I have a very shaded front yard full of grass instead of mud! the third has been down only two days but I can't see why they won't grow also. I used them to cover some still bare edges and a few isolated bare spots. It has all been quick and easy. I have one more spot to fix near the driveway but have to correct a drainage problem first. Those who lack success, maybe it's a low spot that collects water drowning the seeds. I don't know but I have had no trouble.
