Baby's Very First Touchy-Feely Book

My 12 month old daughter likes this book. It keeps her attention and she likes to touch all the different textures in it. There's no story in it, just a picture of and the name on the page. I would recommend it for 9+ months old

This was one of the first books that we bought for our visually impaired/legally blind infant. He loved it so much that he read it to pieces and we're on our second one.First, I didn't notice the paint from the pictures rubbing off, but since the other reviewer brought it up, I went back to the pictures to try it out. These are the textures: fabric (satin for the strawberry, velvet for the butterfly, wool for the cloud, and fur for the penguin) and the vinyl or textured paper (vinyl boots, bumpy and hard crocodile, shiny truck, and the moon). I tried rubbing them all...the moon, which does have a sparkly bumpy texture, did have some sparkles come off on my finger, but you have to be rubbing the page really hard and only a few specks came off. My son is admittedly very hard on his books, but I've never noticed a problem with the moon and because it's in the middle of the page, I'm not worried about him chewing his way to the sparkles. But the other reviewer was right - a few specks did come off...so that's the reason for the four stars. Otherwise, this would be a total five star book.Here are the things I love. First, overall layout. The backgrounds for the pictures are in either black or white (alternating) - the illustrations really pop. The text is in a large font, and the pictures fill up the page nicely. For the most part, each picture features a different color (although there is a "black and white penguin" and a "white cloud" if you're being picky!). As you might've noticed from the above rub-test, there are a variety of textures - something my son really appreciated.The second thing we loved about this book is the index in the back. The last page of the book has a picture index with all eight images on it, plus the text (so a smaller picture of the strawberry with "red strawberry" underneath it). What's been great is that we can point to the strawberry and say "can you find the red strawberry?" and he goes flipping through the book to find it! We've played it with the colors, too. "Where's the pink picture?" or "Can you find the cloud?" The pictures are large enough for him to see, which has been awesome. Our son loves playing that game and it's probably the main reason why our book fell apart the first time.I had to write this review when I saw that the only other review was one star. That wasn't at all our experience and I'm really glad we found this book.Update 10-27-11 : In the newest version, the sparkly material used for the moon has been replaced with a bumpy silver that doesn't flake off at all. Five stars!

The first book we ever read to our now 2 year old. We began reading it to her when she was an infant and it became her favorite. It was neat to see her grow up slowly with this and touch the stuff when she was even just 3 months old and be absolutely fascinated with the different feeling on her fingertips. Then as she got told it helped her to learn what "squishy" felt like (boots). And what "bumpy" meant etc. I how have another baby and as much as I'd love to order another one, there is no need because the original is so durable and while its been used a TON, it's held up surprisingly well!

My 8.5-month-old loves this book! He loves feeling all the different textures on each page, and I think this is the book that has mostly helped him develop his page-turning skills!

Love the book!!!! Absolutely awesome product..love how it describes the actual feel of it. Very hands on learning for babies!!! Although I love the product the seller I got it from didn't accurately describe the product quality in the description. Said it was in good shape and it's torn in multiple places as well as dirty and scuffed up in others.

Lo compré para regalo y gustó mucho. Es un libro muy bonito, colorido, con páginas gruesas y distintas texturas. Lo recomiendo.

The book is nice. I bought it of second-hand but the first item was damaged. I contacted costumer service who were been very kind and helpful and send me a replacement better second-hand copy on promised times.
