Contemporary Woodturning: Techniques & Projects

Nicks book is a labor of love....... He tells you and shows you everything from the tools you need in photos to a carefully crafted step by step explanation of how to do each project.I could not ask more of an author than to put everything they know into a book before asking you to part with your money.As for the projects, I found personally little I liked, meaning things in it were not to my personal taste, but then, that is art... we all differ! However, I will go back to the book and use it from time to time to see how Nick does this or that technique that I can then modify and transfer into my own work.Thanks Nick...... great job!!!

I was new to woodturing with pens and pencils being my first endevure.I was thinking about moving on to Chinese Balls as my next venture but knew I needed more experience before making that leap. After purchasing this book, I got my eyes opened to a whole new world in lathe projects. Many were simple acts of turning, but the after lathe work was the main factor on many projects.This book opened my eyes to possibilities I never knew existed and taught me to use my mind to making new creations. This is my favorite woodturning book currently on my shelves.

This book has a lot in it; tools, techniques, finishes, design, spindle and faceplate turning etc. I have other books but I purchased this one as it has a lot of up to date ideas on wood turning.

Was not worth buying

Mr. Amuli presents many non traditional woodturning designs that will motivate both beginner and experienced turners. His embellishing and finishing techniques are also well worth learning. The author blends turning and carving techniques with great results.

I use this book as inspiration to challenge my own turnings by trying different surface techniques. The "how to do" is very clear and it is just like having Nick next to you directing your enhancement of your own work.

Fantastic book, wonderful projects and great read if you want to push your turning to higher levels , but also covers the basics well

One of the best books by one of the best English turners, if you are looking to improve your work or find different ideas then this is for you.

I like the way Nick makes the seemingly difficult things within the grasp and scope of even the most novice of woodturners.

Great photography, great designs and really clear method a really useful insight into art woodturning. The writer clearly has a talent for teaching. A book worth owning for any woodturner
