Product Description Robert Zemeckis's animated retelling of the popular children's classic, based on the novel by Charles Dickens, featuring the voice talent of Jim Carrey in the multiple roles of Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts which haunt him. Old miser Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future who aim to rid him of his contempt of friendship, love and all things Christmas. In order to do so, the ghosts take him on a journey through time, opening his eyes to the truths he is yet to face and the consequences should he refuse to do so. But in the end it is up to old Scrooge himself to realise the emptiness of his existence and open up his heart before it is too late. The film also features the voices of Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn and Bob Hoskins. From .co.uk Fans of Robert Zemeckis's brilliant special effects, and of Jim Carrey's transformative acting abilities, will be swept away by their collaboration in the stunning A Christmas Carol. Perhaps more surprising is that Charles Dickens purists will also be impressed and captivated by this version of the oft-told tale--which is dark, complex, and in its way, uncompromising. Which is all to say that this Christmas Carol is an instant holiday classic, easily taking its place alongside the Alistair Sim version, the Patrick Stewart version, and even the Mr. Magoo version of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ultimate holiday redemption. Carrey is dazzling as not only Scrooge, the most miserable, and miserly, man in 19th-century England, but as the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. As with The Polar Express, Zemeckis animates the film over the actors' physical performances onscreen, but here, the emotion is intact--even heightened by the brilliant effects. Joining Carrey in the cast are terrific players, including Gary Oldman (Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the ghost of Marley), Cary Elwes, Bob Hoskins, and Robin Wright Penn. But the heart of the film is Carrey, whose dramatic acting has shone in films like The Truman Show and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. The emotional connection Carrey makes with his characters is what brings Dickens's classic alive--and what connects the viewer with the true spirit of the holidays. "God bless us, every one". --A.T. Modern take on a Dickens classic.
I love Xmas films but I have three that are undoubtedly my favourites and A Christmas Carol is one of them. I love all versions of the film but this one is right up there. It’s Disney’s take on the classic tale with Jim Carey taking the lead...well his voice does. It’s amusing and also very dark in places. The bit where Scrooge is being chased by the ghost of Xmas future is really quite scary for small children so better watch it with them. The graphics are amazing and the characters as real as they can be without actually being actors. It’s a really enjoyable take on the Dickens classic bought up to date for discerning adults and children alike. As I say just be aware that very young children might be a bit scared in places. A must to add to your Xmas dvd collection.

Very good BUT not for Kids
I was fascinated with the animated technology used even though it was 10 years ago shows you how far things have come from the Disney drawings/cells of the past. The voices provided by the likes of Jim Carrey are supberb. He 'plays' Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas past & a host of other characters. There's also Colin Firth Bob Hoskins & Gary Oldman.I'm not sure what rating this film has. As an adult parts were scary. I personally would not show it to children under 13. In parts it rivals horror X films for sheer terror.Overall it was a very enjoyable take on the Dickensian classic.

Animation that never seemed So Real
Come Christmas there is a host of movies all on the Charles Dickens short story that is the name of this movie. Some are good and some, well let's just say they don't always hit the spot. Now, I love animation anyway because I admire the work that goes into them, so had to give this a try.Jim Carrey is great in this and the animation is of the best quality throughout. The other good thing about animation is that characters and situations can be greatly exaggerated in order to enchance the scene.Yes, we all know the story but, the animation is what sets this adaptation apart from the others. The price is right and the film is right. Watch it and enjoy

My personal favourite rendition of this multi-"rebooted" brilliant Xmas masterpiece.
Personally I'd rate the movie itself 5 stars, the visuals are stunning. The brilliant casting also gets my 2 thumbs up & another 5 stars. However the 3D effect, although still excellent, is more cinema "Real3D" ie the depth of 3D goes INTO the screen, rather than IMAX quality 3d, which projects outwards from the screen towards you, (hands out trying, desperately hard to grasp/grab whatever appears in front of you).Hope this helps👍👍👍

Aired every year as a Christmas tradition
Love this accurate re-telling of an old classic. Jim Carey's slapstick style was wearing a little thin after Cable Guy, and loving this timeless Dickens classic from reading as a child I bought this 3D version with some trepidation, initially for the visual effects... How wrongly judgemental could I have been. In his restraint, this gifted actor oozes respect for the original narrative, layering appropriate light and shade in his portrayal of Scrooge, and the Christmas ghosts. Hats off to the whole production team. The graphics in their contrast seduce you into the Dickensian Christmas card-like scenes, with a sense of realism that almost makes you forget you're watching computerised imagery. The 3D effects are suitably stunning and pointedly used. The drama builds accordingly to a thrilling pace, and the heart strings are pulled. I now consider this my definitive screen version of this popular tale, which has been aired every year since its Blu Ray release as a Christmas family tradition.

Just Not Christmas without it...
Disney’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol is absolutely scrumptious. I watched it 20 Plus times over the Christmas holidays. The HD copy is stunning to watch, making Scrooge’s journey even more mesmerising to watch. Highly recommended.

MAGICAL
Watched this Christmas, recently thought this would be good in 3D, and it is, adds so much to the visual effect, this is a magical movie, the atmosphere it creates is fantastic, delivered yesterday, watched it twice already, this happens with very few films I've bought, I just lose myself in it, I love it. 3D effects are very good, not over the top, just right.
