The rasp was backwards, but just had to pop it off and turn it around - odd that it's assembled wrong, but not surprised. Very useful for trimming up pottery.

My students have been using this tool to smooth out leather hard or bone dry clay. We like the smoothness and uniform texture it gives a finished ceramics piece. It is easy to use and seems to be good quality. It can get of little clumps of clay that have attached to the bottom of the piece during the building process. It fits well in the hand. I recommend it for the pottery studio.

Great tool to shave extra clay and even out your greenware

I bought this to further shape air-dry clay that has already dried on my sculpts. It works ok for that, but they call it "shredder" for a reason! If you are ok doing a lot of sanding (I do wet sanding) after the initial shredding , it can be useful to correct mistakes, further refine the shape, or what have you. The plastic handle and blade feel cheap to me, but then again, it's not a high-end sculpting tool .
