Four Last Songs & Other Works: The Masterworks Library (Boosey & Hawkes Masterworks Library)

This is well produced full score of three works by Richard Strauss: the Oboe Concerto, the Metamorphosen for 23 Solo Strings and the marvellous Four Last Songs. Listening to the music with the score in one's hand helps one to appreciate the mastery Strauss had over the sound of the orchestra. At first I was sorry that this set of scores is full size, not the miniature I usually have, but the complexity of the orchestral writing in these pieces demands that one be able to see everything at a glance without a magnifying glass.Highly recommended to those who admire Strauss's music and can read a full score.

Bought this as I was playing Metamorphosen and needed to work out who was playing what! Nice clear printing and decent quality paper as usual from Dover Scores, and it arrived really quickly after I placed my order. It was difficult to find on Amazon though, until I had the brainwave of typing 'Four Last Songs' into the Search box - BINGO!! The Four Last Songs are amongst my favourite works too..... looking forward to listening to them with my score and a glass of something nice in hand now!
