IRWIN VISE-GRIP Locking Pliers, V-Jaw, 12-Inch (2078112), Blue

I have several Irwin hand tools and I am always happy with my purchases. This vise-grip plier is well made and fits my hands perfectly.

I got these a few days ago, along with a pair of Channel Lock and Knipex Cobra pliers roughly the same size. I'm returning the Channel Lock and Knipex. After using all three for a few days doing bathroom renovations with plumbing and various other work, including replacing a gas water heater, I much prefer the Irwin Vice Grip pliers. They have less play than the other pliers and grip exceptionally well even doing something like pulling out small finishing nails where you need to use the very end of your pliers. Nothing againts the other pliers but I like the Irwin's best, no matter the price. Lost of positive reviews on the Knipex but I'm much more comfortable with the Irwins and faster too. I think some may be buying the brand. To each his/her own. The Channel Locks, by the way, worked really well too. I'd rank Irwin 1st, Channel Lock 2nd and Knipex 3rd. They're all good.

I bought several from 6 to 12 inch. Once you use these you will never want a "Channel lock" again. Can even be adjusted with one hand which is pretty gol dang useful.

Forget what you remember as THE tool brand to turn to...craftsman, dewalt, stanley...etc. IRWIN is fast becoming my go to name when searching for hand tools. While I don't feel like they have nearly enough selection of tools to completely replace all my hand tools, I do think this will be changing soon. The fact that they have been tool innovators for a very long time, they still aren't the most popular brand. Maybe they should be. The original inventors of the iconic "vice grip", they are now owned by Stanely Black & Decker. Maybe this is what they need to get the recognintion they deserve.The vice grip locking pliers are a great tool. VERY comfortable to use, reliable and are well designed. I own them in almost every size- 6, 8, 10, 12" ! Also many other hand tools they make..strippers, saws, fantastic clamps, squares, needle nose....etc. You just can't go wrong with IRWiN.

first time I tried to use these to remove a black iron gas line at work the pliers slipped and were unusable only reason I gave 2 stars is that they are sending me another pair free. hope they work!Edit: new pair came and have been using them for a few months now with no issues

I have all sizes of these pliers. They’re easier to adjust to the proper size

Beat today's Channellock pliers, hands down!

Updated 2024-AugustAs I wrote earlier, customer care sent me replacement. They actually sent a whole box that contained 5 units. I assumed this was either a warehouse mistake or throwing extra goodwill for a bad unit. Right out of the box at least 2 of them slipped the same way. Now I am finding that all of them slip just some more so than others. The smaller 8 and 10" pliers seem to work just fine. I think there is a manufacturing problem with either this model or the batch I purchased and received replacements from. I called customer service in attempts to speak to someone that could either confirm the issue or tell me how i am "using it wrong." They put me on hold and called the quality department. They wanted me to ship them the tools for examination and pay the shipping. I explained i was willing to donate my time to pack and ship, but that i would expect a prepaid label. this was not something they were willing to do. This is clearly an indication they don't really care about the quality or the brand. I guess this is what happens when a brand dies and becomes just a marketing name slapped onto a product.Updated - 2024-February. Contacted customer care regarding the issue and they promptly sent me a replacement without such defect. It appears there may be a product revision. Happy customer.Previous review of defective plier received from Amazon.Very disappointed with this plier. Brought it to a job, adjusted the jaw size, and as soon as I applied force the adjustment slipped. I’m concerned this is a design flaw rather than a one off quality issue. The other smaller sized pliers seem to hold when gripping. Will they wear out and start slipping in the future?

Have three other pliers from same brand. They are well made and durable.
