Review: Work exactly as intended.... - I had a hard time finding these at the hardware store (as well as any employees to tell me where to look for them... you know what store I am talking about) so I ordered them online. I don't know what to say. They are wooden shims. They are made of wood, and shim-shaped. I have used them for a few things around the house; they work well and I have not needed to replace them.

**Q: What type shim should I buy for wobbly umbrella stand?**
A: The nelson 8" wood shims have always worked for me in shoring up anything that wobbles. Like a table, a dresser, or even an umbrella stand.

**Q: Will these work for a heavy hutch on padded carpet or will they crack?**
A: they probably won't crack, but they'll bow.  I would use the composit.  they're grooved so you can break off the extra rather than try to cut/break the wooden ones

**Q: are these flat or tapered?**
A: Tapered. Typical shins. From near a quarter inch to bear nothing.

**Q: Will these work to level fish tank stand?**
A: I would use a composite type , not wood around water. 
These work very well in carpentry situations.
