You sort of graduate into these
When your eye is keen enough to discern table saw blade harmonics in the cut quality, it's time to try a stabilizer. The 3-1/2" diameter is the attraction in this Freud for me. I've used the 4" and larger dampeners but prefer the extra blade length these provide. I can't see any cut variation between this Freud 3-1/2" and larger diameter dampeners. As a note, stiffeners will shift the blade center. They may not fir the saw OEM insert cutout. I didn't have that problem with the fit on my old retired table saw. I do on the newer commercial saw. To ensure the highest vacuum draw, I use MDF zero-clearance inserts for various dado stacks and thick kerf blade set-ups. One might consider the zero-clearance insert if you run into a saw insert OEM mismatch. Was my review helpful? Click "Helpful" and let me know. Solved issue with thin kerf blades
These stabilizers solved the issue of not enough threads to keep the arbor nut tight when using a thin kerf blade. Thick enough, and low enough height not to interfere with deep blade cuts. Great solution.

Check out your saw first!
Nothing wrong with the item itself. But beware, I tried to install these on my Dewalt 744 table saw. These would not install on the saw properly. The saw already has some small stabilzers that come on it. This would not be a major problem by itself, but the staibilizer on the inside of the blade is made as one solid pice with the interor locking nut. Thus you can't remove the inner stabilizer. If you try to use both Freud stabilizers on the blade it pushes the entire blade outward on the shaft. This leaves the blade out of alignment with the table insert and the splitter blade. I tried leaving off the inner Freud stabilizer and just installing the outside one. This didn't work either as the freud stablizer has a cupped shape to it. As you tighten the nut down on the spindle the blade eventually warps back towards and over the smaller built in dewalt stabilizer. My fix! The back side of the freud inserts have a flat surface although it is smaller in diameter than using the stabilizer the intended direction. I found that if you flip the freud stabilizer around you can get some added support without warping the blade. Although I am still only able to use one stabilizer, I think this fix will work in adding more rigity to the saw blade.

Reduced the runout in my table saw blade significantly
Reduced the runout in my table saw blade significantly. I use an older ridgid contactor saw. They do limit the height you can raise your blade, and will throw off the scale for your table saw fence. Not a big deal for me because I was installing an after market fence on my table saw and new scale.

Works very well!
works very well and does stabilize the saw blade nicely.

A small item with a lot of controversy
All the saw blade companies offer stabilizers. Some users swear by them, others think it is just a profitable little extra to sell.We all know they cut down on the depth of cut. Another thing to consider is that on some brands of saws you may have to remove spacers to accommodate the extra thickness and this effects other attachments on the saw as well. Switching back and forth from using the stabilizer is not always that easy.My own tests, done on both a table saw and an old radial arm saw, are inconclusive. It made no difference on my one expensive 1/8" wide blade, but did cut down the noise on one of my cheaper, real noisy thin blades. On better quality thin blades the difference was less noticeable. Are the cuts actually better? Hard to tell. Normal variations in the feed rate and accuracy in the feed seem to make more difference. The goal of a perfect cut is always somewhat elusive anyway unless you set up each cut like you are making a part for NASA.On the other hand, some people do have the time and patience (and equipment) to make those machine-shop cuts and why not use a stabilizer as well? It can't hurt, and the noise reduction alone might be compelling for some people.I have used mine on a few occasions, when cutting my rare piece of really special wood. It works fine and makes me feel better. Makes the sound of sawing more...sort of expensive-like. That's worth it sometimes. It just isn't absolutely necessary.

Smooth blade stablizers
The stablizers were well balanced and heavy to hold blade speed

Very happy with this Freud Blade Stabilizer!
The greatest thing about this blade stabilizer is that it really does work! I am using it on a 10" Compound Miter Sliding Arm Miter Saw and have a 60 tooth Freud blade on it and have found the ringing noise associated in particular with this blade is considerably lessened and also I no longer have the crosscut tearout that occasionally occurs. The result is a near perfect crosscut with sharp definition on miter/compound miter/bevel cuts. Great product!
