Are the rj45 cat6 pass through connectors different from the cat5 connectors? i thought they were the same, just the cable was different.

Cat 6 wire conductors are Thicker, 23 gauge, as opposed to cat 5 at 24 gauge. Cat 6 plugs have bigger wire channels to accommodate the thicker pairs. Trying to insert cat6 cable pairs into a cat 5 plug is very difficult and not recommended. Should you attempt to do so, you will quickly understand.

Are these 10gbase-t compatible?

Don't confuse CAT6a standard with CAT6 standard...CAT6a works up to 100 meters @ 10gig, but only up to 37 meters for CAT6 @ 10gig....if you need to extend ethernet over 37 meters, and you want 10gig, use CAT6a solid copper wire and CAT6a connectors

Will these work on cat 6, 23 awg cables? the description says 24 to 26 guage. my cat 6 is 23 awg.

No, these will not work with 23awg cables reliably. cables on shorter lengths (under 6 ft) may work, but anything with a long length (i.e. 80 feet) did fail for me.
