Gil Elvgren: All His Glamorous American Pin-Ups Paperback – January 1, 1999

Love this book. Tons and tons of fun illustrations. Love the artist. Would make a great gift for the man in your life or for those who love artwork, especially retro or 50's inspired. This guy is the master. My favorite in the Pin Up variety. Highly recommended. Enjoy!!! Impressive!!!!

The print quality is too poor for an art book. The smooth blends are obliterated by the printer dappling. Good for a reference, not to enjoy the art on it's own.

Classic pinup and cheesecake.

Gil Elvgren was the best of all the pin-up artists and also the most prolific and this book collects much of his work. The plates, nearly six hundred of them, are almost all in color and each one is of decent size. This book is the definitive volume on pin-up art to any collection, his art, a masterwork on the same level as any of the great painters. The fashions on his models may change throughout the forties, fifties and sixties, but their beauty (and cuteness) remain consistent. His fleshtones are truly amazing and the poses suggestive and fun. Elvgren's models weren't just gorgeous, they were friendly, inviting and playful. Just having this book lifts your mood, recalling an earlier time when life was a lot simpler.

Beautiful Girls, in sexy poses though by no means trashy. There are too many to call my favorite, though if I had to pick one, it would either be "Jeepers Peepers," "Oh No!," or "Best Foot Forward." The reference photos are very interesting, though they're rare and far in between. The only thing that could be better are full page illustrations whereas most of the pictures are small and crammed on the page with 3 or 4 others.

I love this book because of the beautiful images. I'm an Artist and use the images as reference for designs, or inspiration for paintings. Yes it's possible to simply print out these images but I prefer to have them all together in a quality bound with the bio of the artwork. Looks attractive on my shelf at home.

Almost 250 of Elvgren's paintings are reproduced in this nicely-made book -- mostly pinups, but also some advertising pieces.Because so much of his work is lost or otherwise not in common circulation, a few of the reproductions here are smaller or from low-quality source materials but it's still nice to have them included. Most, though, are excellent. There are also some pencil studies, photos of the original models, and extensive biographical material.Elvgren's craftmanship was superb and his subjects playful and undeniably nice to look at, even if not exactly "politically-correct" by today's standards.An excellent compendium from a time when a glimpse of stocking-top was enough to get the pulse racing.

Great pic's and the book was near new condition

I needed more books on pin up art for my University dissertation and I came across this book.. Very good priced book and not bulky like other books I have of pin up art! Paperback is lighter than hardback I would recommend to others!

Lovely book about almost all pin up draws of Gil Elvgren.Must have itUsed book only with a sligthly damage on papercover of hardcover front page.

The media could not be loaded.  Very handy reference book. Compact and dense. Very comprehensive. A chronological roadmap of Elvgren career. Multiple pictures on every page, with a few key images played full page through out. A great collection. Encyclopedic in its scope. Happy to have this as a reference guide for posing, composition, settings, colour and wardrobe inspiration. Besides, just flipping through it lifts the spirit with its colour and playful, frolicking, good fun attitude. Gil was one heck of an illustrator.

I bought this after buying a metal pin up sign and went looking for more information about the model and the artist. Digging around online I found that Gil Elvgren was the artist and picked up this book and found it gave a very detailed history Mr. Elvgren. I also like how it showcases all of his works from the early days up to his work in the early 70's; along with his work in advertising.
