Outstanding
I would highly recommend this book to any degree student who has no prior knowledge of VHDL and its dependable technologies. The first forty pages of the book introduce you to logic design fundamentals (the absolute basics that any final year student should be aware of).The book progressivily takes you through VHDL coded examples; to the point where you can design advanced applications such a RISC processor among other things, in the final chapter of the book.1) its very well written and easy to understand.2) its ideal for anyone who has no prior knowledge of VHDL,and who wants to attain a strong understanding of it.3) provides tutorial questions at every step of the book (I highly recommend you follow these).4) The book comes with free Logic AID software, which will assist you in your designs.5) The book provides you with a detailed insight into the available technologies for synthesis (fpga,CPLD`s,Asics e.t.c)6) The book is up to date !7) The book goes into all the essential details.I cant fault with this book!

Great reference or for beginners
Great book for learning VHDL and to use for reference. Will definitely keep in my library. I don't think this is the best material for advanced users as some of my assignments require me to look elsewhere.

Useful Reference
This book was required for a class and ended up being a great resource for learning VHDL. I only rented it because of the price and was disappointed to have to send it back.

A bit old, with no revision.
A lot of "examples" in this text need to be updated, as the coding in more current IDEs don't use that specific terminology anymore. As for general understanding, it's alright, clear and lots of examples, but as before, if you're using a more current IDE software (like Xilinx or similar) a lot of the coding is incorrect and doesn't translate to the program, but the structure of the coding does. Just be careful if you're trying to implement what you're learning on your own.

Only get this book if you need it for the homework questions or you like having a course supplement
This was a book required by a VHDL class I took while completing my undergrad degree. I only ever opened it to look at the homework questions. I never had to read it because I had a good professor, but when skimming through the chapters, it didn't seem like any of the ideas/concepts were presented in a way as clear as the professor made them.
