Beautiful and relatively inexpensive
This abalone is pieced together and beautiful if the piecing doesn't bother you. It's also a lot less expensive than other providers of the product.

Abalone
I just received this, I bought this to use for inlays on a couple guitars Iam building, this is a very small peice & it is not the same thickness across the blank. Also it is nice looking but Iam afraid that even with minor sanding it might get sanded through

It's over priced laminate
I bought this after looking at the price and for a piece of Abalone from China of this size, that's a pretty good but not unexpected charge. However, it's not solid Abalone, rather a material called Abalam which is produced from small and skinny flakes of the Abalone shell, basically the dregs when all other useable material has been harvested, laid on top of each other with resin poured into a mould and then set into sheets under pressure. Anyone not used to working with solid shell will be fooled by this material and I have little doubt the seller is aware of what they are actually retailing but has used a clever combination of words to mislead the buyer in a way English speaking online buyers will be used to from this country. I have many sheets of Abalam of this thickness and so didn't need more but I would say perhaps $4 - $7 would be more appropriate rather than the $20 charged. I should also qualify that had I read and examined the entire page, properly and fully, I would have spotted this so, I am at fault here too. Will I complain to the seller? No. My lack of diligence here is my problem and what will the seller do, ask me to return it to China and then have to wait for ages again, for a refund? For the buyers who wish to use this as guitar inlay (I am a guitar maker), Abalam is actually a little easier to cut with a jewellers saw and is less likely to shatter than solid shell but put it next to solid shell and the difference will be fairly obvious once polished or if you can't see that, don't waste your money on the original item, laminate will work for you and save you much money. 1.5mm depth is fairly standard on shell inlay and even on a 7.25" radius vintage Fender fingerboard, if you have your inlay cut properly this will be fine. On a flat surface such as the headstock facing or body, it has plenty of depth, I've worked with thinner. To the reviewer who identified it as "cheap composite", well spotted. The lesson - Read everything before clicking the "buy" button.
