Bachmann Industries #2020 Baldwin 4-6-0 Steam Locomotive and Tender DCC Equipped B and O Train Car, N Scale

Bought this as a replacement for an engine that fried with a set that was given to me (another Bachmann set). Set it up under my tree. It went around around for about 5 minutes before slowly rolling to a stop. Checked everything else (power output of transformer, continuity of tracks) before determining that the engine was the culprit. I only gave it 2 stars because the seller refunded me so quickly. I'll avoid this brand pretty much forever.

Product arrived and had dust all over the engine straight out the box and runs absolutely terribly on both dc or dcc even after cleaning the wheels and track vigorously.

it stinks

Decent pulling power, pulls 8 cars up a 2.5% grade. After a good break in and cleaning/lubrication runs okay, not a great runner but good enough for pulling a local on small to medium layouts. Slow speed performance is not great, mid speed runs pretty good but you start to see evidence of the lower build quality of the running gear making the frame of the locomotive oscillate. Once over the mid speed it really becomes apparent but keeping it below mid speed suits the style of locomotive and it does seem more comfortable there. I would not run on DC, Bachmann's decoders can run on analog DC but are more suited for DCC. All in all good locomotive, only thing that would improve it is the better slow speed and rework of the running gear.
