The Sexually Dominant Woman: An Illustrated Guide for Nervous Beginners
J**D
A Decent Introduction to the Subject
This is a very basic and honest introduction to the subject. It's wise enough to point out that most people enjoying these experiences won't look like movie stars. If they did they would probably be professional Doms and making a lot of money practicing their art. The folks who will be following this guide will be pretty normal and average looking. They won't look like Midori, the expert in Japanese Rope Bondage who wrote the excellent introduction to this guide book. Many of the fundamentals included involve safety and consent. Couples should make detailed lists of what activities in which they would like to participate. This is basically a "yes, no, maybe" agreement. It always includes the development of safe words or signals to stop whatever activity is occurring. There are lots of activities that are dangerous and should be avoided. Many of them are listed. The book is totally illustrated with decent drawings and captions. Two of this reader's favorites were Cunnilingus and Fellatio (the captions were both funny and promising). The safe use of Edging, clothespins and wax are described. This is a fun read.

Great book for beginners, but look elsewhere if you are already into some level of kink.
Bought this book to add a new aspect of play in our marriage. We’ve enjoyed floggers and cuffs for some time now. This book is a very easy read and the illustrations make it fun. If you have dipped your toes into kink, this may be underwhelming. If you are brand new or pondering it, it is a good place to start.Great book, but nothing new for us here.

Quick but great read
Accidentally read this book in under an hour as soon as I received it. Just tried to browse through but it ended being a good read that I know I can continuously reference. Really appreciated the images although I think I would still have trouble with some of the knots

Good book for beginners
Got this for my wife, it has really interested her. Simple to read, lots of beginner level ideas. I'm enjoying her new dominance.

Approachable, Relatable, Practical and Fun!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in exchange for agreeing to write a review, and I've attended speaking engagements by the author.-------------------Although the topic of women's empowerment is fairly front and center in today's world, that doesn't translate well to intimate interactions, and all too often the only easily accessible source of information is erotica, which is not always (read: rarely) a great basis for real life interpersonal dynamics or fun sexy times. This book reads like a (slightly racy) Sunday brunch conversation with an experienced older sister who's been there, done that, and wants to help you avoid some of the mistakes and maximize the positives in exploring this particular flavour of alternative sexuality practices. I never felt like I was attending a dry lecture on the esoteric benefits of zzzzzz... Nope. This is a fun, easy read, and a great reference book for beginners or those who want to expand their repertoire! The author has kept the subject matter fairly high level to allow for a LOT of ground to be covered, and then provides ample information on where to go for next steps on any of the subjects covered, including authors, books, and other resources. That's *super* helpful for anyone who finds their interest piqued by something and wants more! Also, I love that the dominant women are clearly portrayed in diverse presentations (not just the traditional dominatrix stuff) *and* that the book doesn't have a hetero-normative bias with regards to intimate relationship structures! As somebody in a nontraditional relationship myself, that kind of representation is so affirming and meaningful! The author does a great job of presenting the topics in practical, uncomplicated language, and gives readers an opportunity to actually "try it on for size". The illustrations are great especially on topics that can be difficult to visualize, and it's fantastic to find clear "Caution!" warnings where there's a need to be extra cautious with yourself OR your partner without seeming heavy-handed or ominous, just frank honesty mixed with an obvious desire for people to actually enjoy these experiences and not have preventable mistakes ruin the fun.I especially appreciated the inclusion of three sample "scenes". All too often these kinds of topics are just sort of handed off with a cursory "Good luck!", but this book actually offers a roadmap through the entire experience, taking out much of the guess work (and the intimidation... at least for the woman leading the activities!).This is a great resource for people who are considering engaging in these kinds of activities, and I think this should be in the lending library of every organization that deals with alternative sexuality.

The Best Edition Yet
I now own all three editions if what is rightly considered a classic of BDSM how-to books and I can say with certainty that this is the best version yet.The first version was focused on female dominant and male submissive dynamics. While this book is still focused on the woman dominant it is inclusive in terms of text and images of the fuller range of potential submissive partners. Not only that but the women dominants and tops shown are inclusive. None of this diversity feels forced but honest as I can testify from attending numerous kink events over nearly 3 decades.I think the level of caution and safety is balanced by the portrayal of fun and sexiness, both important to someone who is just looking to learn a bit more. The suggested books are a great way to not only highlight other authors but also to give people more options that you could do in a small book. By "small book" I mean in terms of physical size and pages not in terms of content.I would recommend this to anyone looking into women led dynamics at home or in the bedroom and I would definitely require anyone I mentored to buy a copy, read it, and discuss it with me.

Only Great for Beginners
When I saw a new book by Janet W. Hardy I immediately put it in my shopping cart. Big Mistake! If you are a nervous beginner like it says right under the title this is a good place to start. I just went from title to author. This little book is 6" x 6" and is going to be a disappointment for anyone decently past the nervous beginner stage. Try her topping and bottoming books if you don't have those.
