WW2 History
I remember sitting on the floor while my grandda read these off while laughing. And asking him if these were true. Fast forward 20yrs later when I joined the Army these are still relevant today.

A must for World War II history studies
While George Patton had some problems with this artist. I can see why Ike thought differently. Mauldin depicts war as the infantry soldier saw it...not always a glamorous thing ,something of pathos and admist it all something humorous now and then to keep your sanity. This is the second time I purchased this book; this time in hardback. The first time I left it in the waiting room of my clinic with a note, "Please read and enjoy but leave in the clinic." However, someone was tempted to take it elsewhere. I guess that is testimonial of sorts from whomever. However, since Bill Mauldin was recently honored with a US postage stamp with Willie and Joe in the background, I thought it was time to replace the book in my personal holdings at home. I proceeded to add a first edition copy Up Front, Mauldin's commentary on the cartoons that he drew and the War to those holding. I also purchased a sheet of the commemorative stamps to place inside one to pass on someday to our kids and grand-kids.I certainly would recommend both books and a copy of "Stars and Stripes "containing one of Mauldin's cartoons for anyone who has an interest in the era.

These books are so much like the books that a fellow from here wrote way back in the day when we were first building up this city for the Manhattan Project. Middle of the desert, winds that were titled "Termination Winds" - for a very good reason - and fighting our very own battles during that time for the war effort. He brought to life a character by the name of Dupus Boomer who dealt with these battles and surviving here in a humorous way that made for fun and hilarious reading. This is what Bill Mauldin does - writes his books with humor making the best of a bad situation and it is fun reading and great entertainment. Have two of his books that I really enjoy.

It's not here *sigh*
I have Bill Mauldin's UP FRONT and the boxed brace of books featuring his WILLIE & JOE drawings. I bought Bill Mauldin's ARMY in hopes of finding one drawing. In the barracks after a long march, a soldier shucks his full pack and blissfully says, "I can FLY!" I had a Mauldin book with this cartoon opposite a page with the one of a low flying plane buzzing a column of soldiers and getting a bayoneted rifle in its belly. If anyone knows the title of that Mauldin collection, let me know. Other than that, you can't go wrong with Mauldin's Army work or his editorial cartoons.

A classic from WWII
I had remembered Mauldin's cartoons from several books my father brought home from Italy in 1945. Those books were special for me as he had made comments in the margin. Not so many years later I found myself dealing with some of the same things Joe and Willy dealt with in Europe in the early 40s. Oddly enough, in many ways not much had changed.if you're a Mauldin fan or just want to capture the flavor of war from the GI's perspective, you need this book.

Excellent
A brilliant collection of Bill Mauldins WW11 cartoons. The only problem with this collection is that it might whet your appetite for the complete collection Willie & Joe: The WWII Years and willie and joe back home both well worth the cost.
