Thrilled to find this book reprinted.
I was so fortunate over 20 years ago to find the the "Gottlieb's Bakery 100 Years of Recipes" book at a local thrift store for about fifty cents. Being a trained baker, I was very happy to find it. Through the years my husband and I would joke that if there was ever a divorce, he was getting the "Gottlieb's Book". I have made many recipes out of this cook book and I can assure you they are tried and true recipes. The PM roll recipe makes amazing dinner rolls and I make it weekly to make loaves of bread and hamburger rolls for sandwiches. Recently I was speaking to my adult children about the book. The last time I tried to find it it was out of print but you could purchase a copy of it for $185.00!!! During the recent conversation with my children, we looked it up and low and behold it had been re-printed. I ordered each of my kids a copy so they could have one of their own. All of the recipes are the same that were in the original cook book. There are some difference between the two books such as photographs and anecdotes from family members and their memories about the bakery. The recipe in this cook book are similar to the recipes I used when I apprenticed in the bakery I worked at. The recipes are easy to follow however some of the illustrated instructions are not in the book. (The directions for braiding Challah ) which I believe could be found on youtube. If you are a serious baker and want to learn how things used to be made or just want a good solid cookbook with bakery recipes in it, this is the book for you.

GREAT RECIPES!!!! 2ND CHANCE TO GET THIS BOOK!
This is a really good baking book. It has recipes from a "Jewish" bakery that was in Savannah, GA.I purchased the "original" edition 24 years ago while on my honeymoon, in Savannah. This is a newer edition of the exact same cookbook with the EXACT SAME recipes!!! The only difference between the older version and this newer one is 3 photographs and the binding!! The older version has been out of print for many years and I have seen it posted on Amazon for $130.00!! To all the people who did not get a chance to buy the original edition - this IS your chance to own an excellent baking book. This 2nd version would not have been released if it's recipes were just mediocre and there was no interest!!!I have made several cake recipes and the sprinkle cookies. These were really good and actually brought back fond memories of the baked goods I loved as a child from the Jewish Bakeries' in Detroit, MI.!

The chews recipe is online.
Look up Savannah Chocolate Chews under desserted planet dot com. Same recipe with the missing ingredients. And the only one where folks say it taste right in the comments. I want to try some of the recipes but I will google them to compare to other recipes. No one like throwing ingredients out. I donโt want to make something and find out the vanilla, chocolate and salt had been left out.

A little disappointing
I lived in Savannah for 11 years. I LOVED Gottlieb's Bakery. Their baked goods were the best I have ever eaten. So, when I found the cookbook online, I was ever so happy! One of my favorites at Gottlieb's was the Almond Crescents. It was not in the book. :( Also, for the price, I guess I expected more. I haven't tried the recipes yet. But if they are true to the original recipes, then I'm sure they are delicious! The main reason for my 3-star rating is the fact that I ordered three cookbooks (listed as "in stock") on December 10 and didn't receive them until after the new year. I guess I was being punished for not paying extra money for expedited shipping. It's not like these cookbooks are in great demand.

Yeah! The Family Cookbook is Back!
I'll admit, I'm not unbiased. My Mother's Mother was the younger sister of Aunt Jennie Gottlieb. So the Gottlieb Bakery Cookbook is the Family Cookbook!I do miss the hand drawn illustrations that came with the original plastic comb book. But I'm still glad I can pass these recipes on to family and friends.PS A friend just made the Hammentashen cookies for Purim and has advised me that they are delicious. ;)

my hometown bakery
As a kid I used to go trick or treating at the bakery. The family lived above the bakery and always had delicious treats for Halloween. My favorite bread was their Vienna bread, along with the cheese spread they made.
