Poison Hemlock Killer!
Well, not quite, but that is a catchy title, no?I bought this rather expensive (!!) shovel on the recommendation of a man on YT, who made a bombastic video about getting rid of poison hemlock on your property. Long story short, YES! The recommendation is now very appreciated--I have since found that the long tap roots are no match for this thing. Actually, the Big Momma plant growing up the side of our house (originally maybe ten feet tall), I felt like I was slaying like a dragon when I attacked her with this thing!! And yet, because of her location between the house and a too-close chain-link fence, I could not dig up all of her roots. SIGH. But I dug up and very carefully disposed of her many babies.**Always wear PPE when dealing with poison hemlock. Some people online are very cavalier about just touching it, but when I stupidly started ripping out Big Momma's greenery by hand earlier in the year (before I remembered, uh, I think I saw this huge monster in some foraging videos over winter), I quickly found that she fought back! Over the next few days, my left hand turned bright red and the one finger started pussing. It really hurt and was really gross! The humble plantain, leaves picked from my very own yard, proved to make excellent poultices for drawing out the poison. So even though I did not eat the poison hemlock (!) it still did harm me. Please do your research and be careful with this plant as it is becoming more common in the USA. We actually think it gave our older dog some seizures because he only had them (two) in the two days after he accidentally touched one of the young plants that I had not yet removed. He hasn't had them since.

Best Garden Digging Fork --ever
I had my heart set on finding the original garden fork i bought 20 years ago. This fave of mine broke about a year ago and i kept it around, unusable because i just couldn't give up, let it go. Never could find the right replacement. It was an Ames Landscapers Digging Fork and had been with me through many a chore; and yeah I can go to extremes on what I think the tools and I can accomplish.Bought a replacement and it just wasn't cutting the mustard, so when the daughter asked to borrow it i easily let it go. Went online searching for a sturdy garden digging fork (not a border fork) and saw this model. All metal shaft, one piece, lifetime guarantee (the mfr must've made it sturdy else why have such a warranty?). All check boxes clicked ... even a couple extras, including made in the USA, bright color so it would be hard to not easily locate in the brush, compost heap or forgotten in the yard.Have used it twice already, turning over compost heaps (heavy job), digging in the long border (planting, digging out, snarled roots from long dead shrubs). I can feel the sturdiness, the heft; this tool won't leave me high and dry, not able to complete a task. This is a winner!

Easy to use
This has made turning my 3 compost piles much easier. It has also made breaking through the top layer of soil to allow for better moisture penetration.

Perfect design but broke in 3 days
Very well designed for the job of digging out oak saplings: narrow long reinforced steel blade. The squirrels want my yard to be an oak forest. Narrow blade helped dig out saplings in amongst an azalea hedge. I was delighted until it broke where the steel blade joins the steel handle. It has a design flaw in that the reinforcement along the blade needs to extend up onto the handle. I am 67 but reasonably strong and have not managed to break my father's bequeathed spade with a wooden handle that I was using previously probably because the handle creaks when I am putting on too much stress. This is steel and gave no warning. I would buy again if more reinforcement where it broke. Need to look for something without the flaw.Follow up: discovered this tool has a warranty. Contacted company and they are sending replacement for cost of shipping. I would increase my rating to three or four stars, therefore, because it is a well-designed tool bar the weakness at the blade handle join . Just be careful about leverage unless the manufacturer strengthens the neck region.
