Great cheap PC for a home computer or to mess around with
Bought this so I could mess around with Linux without having to dual boot it on my main PC. This works great and is super quick using Mint.A couple hardware issues that I would recommend addressing if you are planning on purchasing it:-The SSD is small and cheap, I would upgrade to a better qualify one when you buy this.-Upgrading RAM is a little annoying. Whoever refurbished over bent the clips for the RAM, so they wouldn't hold the sticks in place. I had to bend back into place before I could install the new RAM. Mine had SAMSUNG RAM already installed, so they don't cheap out on that, so not a necessary upgrade.-The thermal paste was DRY when I got it. Thankfully, I was already planning on changing that, so it was not an issue for me, but someone buying this who was not planning to do so can run into performance issues after a while. The heatsink cannot be overtightened, so that's awesome.Highly recommend for a cheap family PC, can easily handle daily use. If you plan on gaming, it could maybe handle some lighter games, but the CPU is kind of dated, and getting a GPU in this would be difficult.

Small but decently powerful mini PC
I got this as I needed to run a lot of scheduled programs that I didn't want to keep a Laptop running all the time for. I contemplated using a Raspberry Pi and this and realised that with Raspberry Pi, after including the HDMI cable, SD card, case etc. it would end up being 110-120$. At the same time, this at about double the price is a much more powerful processor and includes Win 10 Prof. The product was shipped with a keyboard and a mouse which were useful though I would have preferred a lower price and ditching those. The internals could be accessed without any tools and I had spare RAM that I could use and upgraded this to 16 GB.The machine is fast, silent and sits quietly on my desk next to the docking station. It is quite inconspicuous and I never hear the fan or any other issues.I would have considered this a dream item if this was about 50$ cheaper but had no OS, Keyboard or mouse. Still, it is quite a good investment.

Functioning product, powerful with Linux
Received the device earlier than scheduled which is a plus. Came packaged with a mouse and keyboard as well as a WiFi USB dongle like other reviewers have mentioned. I haven't tried them yet so I can't provide any details on it.For the computer itself, very small form factor with minimal visible defects, I would rate as excellent condition from the refurb front. Opened it up and the inside is clean, no dust or debris. SSD installed is a generic drive, not sure about life expectancy on it but will use it until I need to replace it (because why not).Installed Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS on it to run some home networking kit and it is fast. Boot up time is maybe 30 seconds. Will probably look at purchasing another in the future for running some other network toys.

Zippy performance in a very small package IF you actually get the "Mini" version
NOTE: My usage does not involve gaming. I wanted a smaller PC for office use, surfing and monitoring one surveillance camera. The Good: Very compact, I was surprised at how small it is. Can easily pick it up and lift it with one hand. I most definitely got the "Mini" version (i.e. not just Small Form Factor). What I received is 2" larger in 2 dimensions compared to a 5X5 NUC (Next Unit of Computing form factor). Zippy performance on this HP with a Core i5 2.5 Ghz CPU. (Perspective: For YouTube 1080p and general surfing, this HP 800 Elitedesk feels as fast as my other PCs which are i7-4790K with 16GB RAM PCs that have top quality Solid State Drives). Boots quickly. No overheating. Once I started using it, I said to myself "Why do people even bother with Intel (or AMD) NUCs? (i.e. the 5X5" "Next Unit of Computing" form factor). From what I read, many of the people that go with NUC sized units have nothing but overheating and driver problems. None of that here with this HP unit.256GB Fast SSD drive but after formatting and putting windows on it, you get 233GB - still pretty good.Totally silent. Many USB 3.0 ports. The Bad: No HDMI out. It has Display Port and VGA. ( I ordered a DP to HDMI adapter. We'll see. For now I'm using VGA as a workaround.)No Operating System disk as a fail safe if I needed to do a reinstall / repair. No OS image on USB drive, or recovery partition (that I can find) provided on the SSD drive. No papers or instructions of any kind - which doesn't bug me that much but no license key is a bit annoying. You boot as Local Adminstrator with a "Null" (blank set) password. I immediately reset it and created other accounts for daily use. There are many Amazon "resellers" of this HP. I deliberately chose one with a 100% rating and paid 40 - 50 dollars more for that. I can say that the computer I received is what was actually pictured/listed/presented. Mine arrived packaged well and came with basic keyboard and mouse. ABSOLUTELY NO BLOATWARE.. YAY! So far, I am very pleased with what I got. I think if you were to buy from a lowball (bottom price or rating) you are asking for trouble. YMMV.I can definitely recommend this PC...IF ...what you receive is what is pictured/presented fulfilled from a reliable Amazon reseller (sub vendor?). Again, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance and value I got. In the future I may give up on custom build-my-own full sized PCs.UPDATE: My SSD (Solid State Drive) died after 6 months. It was an off brand, but for the time it worked it was very fast. PC abruptly became unbootable, the "hard drive" utility check in the BIOS confirmed it was dead.THE BAD NEWS: I had to order a replacement drive as I was way beyond the resellers 90 day warranty. I stepped up to a Samsung 870 SATA SSD drive.THE GOOD NEWS: In their defense, they pointed out that my Windows 10 install key was embedded in the PC - presumably in the BIOS firmware. This saved me $140 on the purchase of a new copy of Windows 10 Pro. All I had to do is find a spare USB drive (8GB minimum, I used a verbatim 16GB USB), go to the Microsoft Windows 10 download site. I did ** NOT ** chose the ISO option. The software was literally placed on the USB drive ready to go. When I power cycled it, Windows 10 installer came up and NEVER prompted me for a license key! Yay! And once install was completed, there is no prompt for activation.TLDR: The Install Key - FOR THE MODEL I BOUGHT AND RECEIVED - was embedded in the HP Elite BIOS. This is a pretty cool thing!Addendum: HP provides this micro-thin, custom SSD data/power connector on this PC. Is looks to be custom and care should be handling it as it is PCB tracings on a thin flexible plastic. HOWEVER, it works great! They had to engineer it this way to get things this compact. BOTTOM LINE: Changing / upgrading the SSD on this unit is VERY low hassle! Cheers!
