The Crochet Stitch Bible

British Best!
Its THE book for beginners. And a great reference guide,as it has diagram/stitch charts and pictures along with written explanations. However, since this seems to be a UK publication, some stitches have different names as compared to books published from USA.Whatever be the case, this is a must have book here in India, simply because of its fair price.About a hundred stitches, their variations, granny squares,Tunisian and more!

Not for the modern crocheter
This book might have had a place once upon the time but in the world of Instagram, youtube and advanced photography I'm afraid it is outdated. I taught myself to crochet using youtube and am ready to start designing my own work so wanted a reference book and thought this one looked comprehensive. However, I had 2 problems with the book...first, I found the photos really hard to *see* the stitches. They are printed on glossy paper and the thread used is glossy, the photos are small and I found it really hard to decipher the individual stitches. The fact that each swatch is monotone also adds to this problem as it would be easier to see the difference between rows and stitches with alternating colours. I specifically like textured stitches and I just found it really hard to discern the difference between the different types of 'puff' stitches due to the poor photos and found it very uninspiring. The second issue I had was the variety of stitches. With it having 200 I expected it would contain everything I was looking for but in fact I could only see myself using a handful of them. I like modern textured stitches for my homeware work such as basketweave, fish scales, cable and raised diamonds and none of these are included which was very disappointing. In the end I went back to Amazon and did more research and have bought a book on Japanese crochet and Crochet Every Way having looked at Kindle samples first and I am confident that these books are much me suitable for my modern crocher work. One thing I did like about the book is its spiral binding!

Great patterns
Good book. Lots of patterns, and in colour.

Small niggle
The book is very comprehensive but seems to be the American edition which means some of the stitches have different names. You can translate them (with help!)

Excellent with spiral binding
Written in American terminology which is different to UK in this craft, so have to remember that when using. Lovely illustrations and well presented. Excellent with spiral binding.

The cross stitch bible
Very instructive and clear to use. We'll worth getting for anyone wanting to learn a wide range of stitches. Very good.
