The Birds Are Delighted
I ordered three different brands of hot pepper suet cakes, putting all three out simultaneously and within 10 feet of each other to see which brand western Oregon birds preferred. The brands were:Choice Hot Pepper Suet Cake ($3.59 + free shipping);C & S Products Hot Pepper Delight ($2.86 + free shipping);Pine Tree Farms Never Melt Suet Hot Pepper Cake ($1.74 + $4.92 shipping). The birds were equally happy with the first two brands, but ate the Pine Tree Farms Suet more reluctantly, with birds lower in their conspecific hierarchy eating the Pine Tree Farms suet as a second choice, when higher ranking birds occupied the other two suet brands. Consequently, the Pine Tree Farms suet lasted twice as long as the others simply because it didn't appeal to the avian pallet, despite the relatively high Amazon reviewer rating.Birds observed feeding included: Northern flickers, Steller's jays, scrub jays, downy woodpeckers, hairy woodpeckers, black-capped and chestnut backed chickadees, dark-eyed juncos, song sparrows, golden crowned sparrows, and bushtits. At the time of this review, C & S Products Suet Pepper Delight would seem to be the best choice among hot pepper suet cakes based on bird preference and price. A fox squirrel was briefly observed once eating this product, but never again.

Birds love it, squirrels avoid it.
I have been buying these for years but through a known home improvement store. I happened to catch them here for the same price a few weeks ago, so I grabbed them quickly. It's a good value if you can get them for the same price. I have been buying these for years for my woodpeckers. They really love them and ignore the other flavors. So I won't buy anything else but the hot pepper suet. The reason I tried these was to keep the squirrels off of it, and they do stay off of it!

Took awhile, but now I have a visitor.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. For a good while, this didn’t seem to attract anybody. The squirrels definitely kept their distance, but so did the birds! Finally, one afternoon, a little woodpecker decided to investigate.

Birds love it and squirrels ignore it
I have been using these spicy suet cakes for months and I love them. I keep a seed feeder and suet feeder outside. The squirrels used to eat all my seed and then go straight for the suet. The squirrels were chasing away birds and eating everything before the birds got a chance. The squirrels don't touch this suet, but the birds go wild for it. Now the birds and squirrels can coexist on my feeder. The suet is truly non-melt, but is softer than other brands and crumbles more easily if you're not careful. My only issue is that the birds end up eating these cakes within a couple days, but that's the fault of my local birds and not the product.

Works great, with a small caveat
The Acorn Woodpeckers and Steller's Jays love it. Most of the squirrels hate it, except one female who (like me) has developed a taste for chili pepper. Save me lots of money because 99% of the squirrels think she's nuts and won't go near the stuff.

It's probably the best no-melt suet sold and it gives the birds a ...
Not only do we have a lot of song birds, we have a LOT of tree squirrels who will take any chance to steal suet! Hot pepper, no melt suet dough is the answer. It does not harm birds at all, but squirrels quickly learn to leave it alone. It's probably the best no-melt suet sold and it gives the birds a stress-free way to eat their share, then take some back to the chicks.

Spicy Bird Feeding Cakes
My dad wanted me to purchase some bird suet for refilling the feeding basket cages. The local Walmart stopped having these hot pepper delight suet cakes, so I found them on Amazon.com at a great price. I love the ethnic character on the packaging of the product because I am of that culture. It does not offend me at all.😀 The C and S company shows me honor! I will buy again. Thank you Amazon.com!

Yes, it Works!!!!
Squirrels around our house love suet. they are very smart and have figured out how to open suet cages or pull out pieces to eat. This year I decided to try this product which includes capscasin, which does not bother the birds, but is too spicy for squirrels, chipmunks, etc. It has been a month now, and though the squirrels did check the suet cages at first, they now avoid them, while the woodpeckers and chickadees feed happily. This product does work! While it's more expensive per piece, it's a no-melt type, and with only birds eating it, they last longer then the usual cheap, fatty suet I've bought in the past. So, in the never-ending battle of bird people with squirrels, chalk one up for the birds!!
