Effective and a Smart Design.
The design of this is so smart compared to other ion purifiers. I really really like it and have purchased 4 of them, 2 for me 2 as gifts.Let me start by hitting on a few things I read in other reviews, The UV light and night light are two separate elements, the UV light is located in the top housing by the fan and is not visible when it is running. The night light has an on off switch but when it is off it is kind of still on, a very very very dim blue light emanates from it. I'm not sure if this is light from the UV bulb or if it is designed that way. The unit does sound like it has something loose in it when you move it. Like other ionic purifiers it has very fine wires that transfer the charge to the core. The build up dust and the noise you hear is actually cause by a cleaning mechanism. The wires have bearings on them instead of a manual slide, so when you tip the unit the spheres will slide up and down on the wires and clean them off. This does produce a minute amount of ozone according to the book it is 0.05 parts per million (PPM).. Also, yes this may cause dust to fall out of the air, the negative charge it produces causes molecules to stick together and the heavier dust may fall out and build out around it. Better for it to be on a surface where you can whipe it up instead of floating in the air you breath, right? Over time the dust will decrease as more and more is removed. This is not a HEPA filter, if you need every single piece of dust and pollen removed and don't mind buying expensive filters every few months then maybe this is not for you.Like I said the design is very smart, the air enters from the bottom, passes over a seamless core (which is extremely easy to clean then through a carbon filter and over the UV light. The fan is located at the top of the unit and unlike with other fan driven ionizers it is receiving cleaned air instead of dirty air which makes the fan far less likely to build up dust on it.The core is my favorite part. Unlike other ionizers that use fin or plate like anodes that are tightly spaced and hard to clean in-between the core of this is a 4 sided seamless design that is super easy to wipe off. Plus these haven't yet made that annoying crackling noise that other ionizers make when they are dirty. It is fairly effective at removing odors, the cores have captured a lot of fine particulates from the air in my home. I was really shocked to see how much black particulate carbon / soot ended up on the cleaning rag which I assume is coming from the increasing traffic and the gas / oil boom around here. It was disturbing but I am glad it is out of tge air. The UV-C light helps a lot with bacterial odors from things like litter boxes, stinky shoes, dish sponges etc. Plus UV-c light can kill or disable viruses and bacteria leading to over all better health and air quality.I recently spent 35$ on a plug in UV-C purifier without the ionizer from my bathroom so for just a few buck more you can get a much better option for odor removal and air purification. I have used many ionizers and filters over the course of my life and I can so I do really like this. I can not speak to the longevity of the product as I have only been using them for about 3 weeks, time will tell.

The ion b 1000 is the best!
I researched for about 2 months seriously, to find the best quality and price for an ionizer air purifier. Im a person willing to wait for the best deal. The actual mechanism that makes an ionizer is simple.....getting it at a non-ridiculous and moral price is not.The ion b 1000 is the best i could find! How it looks, how simple it is to clean and maintain, how very nearly silent it is and how it truely Works to give you clean fresh smelling air makes it a fantastic buy! It does the job in my large bedroom despit the moving central air and open door! I've absolutely slept through the night every night since day one of using it. I was waking every two to four hours every night before recieving it. My research also showed, even by places like the NIH the ionized air helps with winter depression and mood in general all year round. The ammout of ozone it produces isTruely insignifcant. Do your oun research. You can buy ozone detectors and air particle detectors to test it yourself.I'm purchasing at least one more for the down stairs and another large activity room.HEY, we consumers are catching on......the hype and the packaging can add hundreds of dollars to a comperable or even a less well made product......i hate waisting money!!!! I always do the research and can be very surprized at times with finding a well priced quality product like the ion b 1,000!

the product does a good job of cleaning the air
So, the product does a good job of cleaning the air. I do have a fresher feeling when I am in my room. I use it in my room with the sole purpose of getting rid of an herbal smell. The product does do a decent job of getting rid of the smell, but it isn't as instant as I desired. I personally feel my expectation were unreasonable.I paid around $50 and have no regrets for it around that price. I only gave it a 4 star, because i intentionally skip over the 5 stars when I review the product. The product is good, but if you are buying it to rid of freshly burned herbs to the point of nonexistence. I'm afraid this isn't it. This does do a good job of getting rid of the smell from them being in closed room.

Excellent Air Purifier!
I bought this because we are in an area that experiences high levels of wildfire smoke.(Like Now). I am a smoker but have decided that I am going to smoke outside from now on since we just built a brand new cabin to live in, my little dog and I. Shakti has a lot of fur and dander, the fire smoke, and the pumice dust we get. So far it is working as advertised. I wrote the manufacturer and asked if it would be effective if you had your windows open and they said it was fine. They wrote me back in one day. So far I have kept it on low and I don't use the night light..it's really too bright for me, but would make an excellent night light for a larger home. I purchased an extra filter. I have used it now for a month and cleaned the rod and filter yesterday. My little cabin smells fresh and clean. For those of you that smoke, I would suggest biting the bullet and moving your smoking outside. I have ruined too many air conditioners, paintings, and furniture with nicotine residue, not to mention my dog and my lungs. I would imagine that this unit would have to be cleaned once a week for smokers, like your air conditioner filters. No judgment but a good life style change for me.Highly Recommended!!!!

NOT a filter, it's an ionizer.
I bought this unit to deodorize and filter an unventilated basement level of a home with no HVAC anywhere else. So, musty, dusty finished basement. I've had an Ionic Breeze (aka: "Housefire Starter XL") before and knew this wouldn't hold a candle to a "real" HEPA filter system, but at least I got it for a quarter of a HEPA price. ANY home-size ionic filter is really wimpy for dust removal (industrial ones that crackle continuously work well, but you wouldn't want a refrigerator-size bug-zapper in your living room). This IONIZER helps it's airflow with a small fan to force air through, but it still doesn't have the charge intensity to catch dust before it leaves the filter again. After two weeks, the ionizer "rod" in the middle is just slightly greyer than brand new, which I would consider almost no collection INSIDE the filter. If I haven't been blunt enough yet, DON'T expect this unit to do much at all for dust removal... as far as I can tell, the ONLY effect it has on dust is that slightly more will be static-charged and stick to everything ELSE in the room. So, you'll dust your tables more, but the filter unit looks darn clean inside. Hmmm... not really a win there as a filter, in my opinion. What this unit WILL do is gently nuke the air with UV-C, and "gently" collect very small contaminants like mold and smoke. It WILL make the room smell more like a harsh rainstorm (read: OZONE!!!!) than whatever it smelled like before. And did I say **OZONE**? Yeah, for it's size, this thing puts out a LOT. If you're closer than 6 feet and NOT sensitive to O3, you'll smell it. If you're sensitive, you'll smell it from 20 feet. If you close the door on the room, it becomes offensively strong when built up. I had the filter in my office and it did GREAT making the 12x12 office smell better, but only AFTER removing the filter again and airing out the O3 buildup. So, it will kill odors, but I wouldn't want to ever limit the air circulation because O3 is NOT really good for you in high concentrations. In my open-airflow basement level, it's doing a great job supressing the prior "dank" odor, but that's about the ONLY place I would recommend this unit...

The particle attracter is easy to remove and clean
I am a Disabled Vet who lives in an apartment complex for Veterans. I have major restrictions placed on me and it takes me longer to do something. In the case of this Air Filter, it is dusting. Before I had this Filter, I would have to dust once a week and it would take me 2 to 3 hours just to do one room (it's a small apartment with a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bath). I would dust for about 5 minutes then have to take a 10 minute break (yes, I am that messed up). This Air Filter has keeps this dusting problem where I only have to do it every 2 or 3 weeks. I have it set up in my living room which the open kitchen is also. It keeps both areas from being overly dusted.I am planning on buying another one for my bedroom which, again, takes me a couple hours to dust. I have a large collection of DVDs/Blu-Rays that get very dusty and I hope it will keep most of the dust off of those. The last thing I want to mention is the ease of cleaning the filter. The particle attracter is easy to remove and clean.Another thing is that it has an optional light that can be turned on or off. I leave it on because it is another night lite that I use so I don't trip in the dark. For me, this has been both a time saving and keeps my chronic pain down by letting me do less.P.S. It runs very, very quietly even on high speed.

Aweful, smells and barely blows it is not working I want a better model and no warning of a radiation or breathing issues!!!!!!!
I have to contact seller. I NEED TOXINS FREE. It describes as it is then adds may emit toxins of a sort. That WILL kill us. It barely blows and hasn't collected a dust particle. Which is impossible as my Hepa is always full with dust and hair and I keep up on it. My Service Dog stops itching and you can smell and feel it. I prefer louder than not working. It is giving out a burning plastic smell and electrical fore smell. I pulled rod out nothing in it in front of a window on a very busy, dusty, NYC Metro Street. I want an exchange and recommendations for a MUCH better one with a modern look I give it that compared to my Hepa that actually works in my bedroom, but I rhiufht it got rid of negative ions from TV's and electonics and actually collected and cleaners our air not added to it. It has a warning against people with breathing issues, huh and that it sends out some sort of toxic ion? Someone help I MUST have something that REALLY gets rid of all HEPA does and aesthetic with no filters for LR. Also helps reduce negative electronic ions send btw works and doesn't smell like chemicals. WHY WARNIGS against use for those with breathing issues= scarey it is supposed too help CLEAN all that not add too it.

So far so good - you have to clean the collector regularly as with any ionic air cleaner
So far so good. It seems to work fine. I wanted it to catch common allergens so that home can be a refuge from them. But I haven't had any catastrophe in the house which puts it to a dramatic test. (Fingers crossed that I won't need to.) I sometimes move this device around between the bedroom and office, which are right-sized rooms for this device. Moving it between rooms is probably a hint I should get a second one soon. The opposite side of the house has a standard HEPA filter sized for the larger room. Between them, I have not noticed any smell of smoke indoors on recent days when outdoor air was noticeably smoky from Northern California wildfires. Some reviews have said this device "stops working" but I caution that indicates the user probably didn't read the instructions. Any ionic air cleaner requires cleaning off the "collector" (electrode) regularly, where particles that were in the air get deposited. It will decline in effectiveness if you don't clean it. Initially I checked it almost daily and then figured out for my needs weekly cleaning is good enough. You may need to clean it more or less often depending how much stuff is in your home's air. The small amount of cleaning effort is a reasonable tradeoff versus other types of air purifiers that require regularly buying potentially-pricey replacement filters.
