LITTLE BELL WITH PLEASANT TINGLE SOUND!
Be aware that this product has no installation instructions nor does it have any mounting hardware included with it. With that said, it has a nice, but alerting, tingle sound (even with the slightest movement of the door).I am incontinent and bedridden. I live in these apartments, (with security, so I never lock my door) whose residents come by my front door and just "pop-in" to check on my welfare, usually without ever knocking (I'm thankful they do this, though). Once they open my front door, they can see straight into my bedroom, therefore, I don't want them to see me in my bed using a urinal. Sometimes, I'm not even aware that someone has come into my apartment. This little bell (when mounted on my front door) solves that problem! My physical issues are due to a neuro-muscular disease/disorder (supposedly supported by MDA) that is both debilitating and degenerative. It involves the progressive loss of coordination and muscle strength leading to motor incapacitation. In my experience, MDA is a JOKE! I have learned that MDA attempts to make everyone believe that they are out to help people like me, but instead, exploit us for their own selfish monetary gain! During my lifetime of 45 years, realistically, MDA hasn't done anything for my disease/disorder -- not even a simple treatment! Thus, I need this particular item as a result of this continuation of my physical decline.

Perfect for our little dog...and apparently the cat, too!
We have had this bell for two years now. We bought it to train our chihuahua to ring it when she wanted to go out to do her business. It's exactly what we needed! We had tried another kind of bell but it just did not work! This one she just taps with her nose and we hear it wherever we are! Took her only about a month to get it ringing consistently! Another huge bonus is that it's a small enough size that the bell is portable if we go to someone else's house. We have ours slid in behind the baseboard radiator by the door so we just slip it out and off we go! I would absolutely buy this again...we've never had an issue with not hearing the bell or it not ringing when she tapped it in the two years we've been using it...several times daily ;)...and we have two small children who are not, on average, quiet either :) This bell has made our life so much easier!**UPDATE** 6 1/2 years later we are still using the bell! AND the cat, after watching the dog use the bell, now rings it to go out, too! LOL

Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! Hear a gentle bell whenever someone opens the door
Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! We wanted to know when someone opened our home's front door. And that's what it does, with a gentle ting-ting-ting-ting sound that we can hear everywhere, but which is never obnoxious. The bell attaches onto the top of your door with two small screws. When the door closes, the spring is under a bit of tension. When someone opens the door, the bell dangles free and makes its sound for a few seconds. No electronics, nothing fancy; you simply know that the door is opened.Depending on how hard the door is closed, it may or may not ring when you close the door. If it's closed gently, it won't ring. If it's slammed, it will. However, the bell is really meant to signal when the door opens, which is does unless the door is opened v-e-r-r-r-r-r-y slowly. You may need to bend the spring a bit in order to adjust the sensitivity the bell, but that's easy.

Sensitive and Easy to Ring
Unlike its intended use, I bought this as a bell for my dog so she could tell me when she had to go outside (potty training method attempt #14).I've noticed some reviews suggesting that the bell doesn't ring easily, even when the door that it's attached to is swung shut forcefully. Perhaps they had a defective bell because mine was very sensitive. We attached it to the wall (drywall) near the door and low enough for my dog to paw or nose at it. While teaching her, we rang the bell each and every time we went outside, so we were ringing it quite often. The bell took only a very slight tap to chime and the metal holding the bell is very springy. It worked for our needs and I truly think that it should work just fine as a shop keeper's bell also.

Perfect for office door!
Bought to put on my office door since I'm in the back a lot and don't see/hear when people would come in. It works great! Our doors are aluminum so I couldn't put a magnet on like some people suggested. I also didn't want to drill into the door, so I used a 3M wall hook sticky to put it on. I just trimmed the sticky part to fit the metal and colored the tab black to blend in with the door. It gives a nice tinkle but not too loud or annoying. It's lightweight and small enough that it doesn't stand out. It's sensitive and has a light tinkle after the door closes while it's calming back down but not enough to where you think the door opened again.

Just the perfect Shop Bell !!
I purchased this bell for use in a theatre production for use on a flower shop dor in "Little Shop of Horrors". The tone is beautiful and just perfect, everything you remember about how real shop bells sounded back in the day. The bell mount is made of real spring steel so it is very sensitive to movement, no one is going to sneak into your shop without sounding this bell. Other types we tested had pressed steel bells and stiff steel or cast iron mounts that were difficult to adjust for a reliable ring.Well worth any price difference if you care about the sound quality and/or the reliability.

Nice little door bell
I use this for the door leading down to the basement where my room is. It lets me know if someone's coming down the stairs. Great robbery protection too. If somebody was coming down to try to rob me I'd hear the bell and have time to get my shotgun ready. The only reason I only gave this four stars is that there's no installation instructions included with it.

It's ok...
I read all the reviews for this product before buying it for my small 3-chair salon. We didn't need something huge and annoying...just something small with a light sound so we would know when customers enter. I agree with the other reviews saying that you REALLY have to push and pull the door open pretty hard to make it ring a lot. I have a slow closing door so it doesnt ring when closing, only when its pushed open swiftly. I ended up bending it outward slightly so the bell was angled and rings easier.
