Dolly Dingle, Lesbian Landlady (Career Girl Book 4)

This was fun.
I think Ms Nolan brought the cast of characters to life better here than in BOBBY BLANCHARD. BLANCHARD was an interesting puzzle. This story, however, is more a negotiation of character motivation. Who am I, really? Who is she, really? And who are we, together and apart? The ending was cribbed from IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. That's the great thing about writing a parody; you can always point to the source material and say, welp! That's what they did back then!Still, I liked Dolly, as I liked Bobby. There's a lot to be said for a likeable, if flawed, protagonist. My point-of-view, if you're interested, is that I'm actively trying to read stories written by the LGBT community. I confess, I've mostly read dead white males my entire life. I know that Ms Nolan's books are framed as soft-core porn. (I find her use of sexual euphemisms hilarious.) But I find myself captivated by Bobby and Dolly.I read something today I'd like to share. When somebody says, "You throw like a girl," boys think, "weak." But girls think, "with enthusiasm!" Dolly goes about her chores with undisguised enthusiasm, and THAT's why she's a great role model for both girls and boys.

unless I've somehow missed one) is so funny and clever
This whole series of novels (4, unless I've somehow missed one) is so funny and clever. The old pulps are interesting, but of course they're so tragic, etc. These are hilarious and happily-ever-after mysteries that you can speed through on a lazy day. Surprisingly, with such a large cast of characters, it's easy to keep up with who's who. Nolan really does well evoking the scene and time period. I'd love to see more of these!

Campy Pulpy Fun
Just as good as the other books in the series! If I had to describe one of Nolan's books, I would say that they are a cross between a 50s lesbian pulp novel and an Enid Blyton book. Lots of fun!

A perfect gift for the lesbian pulp lover in your family.
Another excellent romp through lesbian pulp tropes by Monica Nolan. Good triumphs over evil, the ill-tempered get their comeuppance and love wins the day.

A satisfying update on the career girls
I adore these books, and was glad of the chance to catch up with the characters--especially former housekeeper and criminal Ramona.
