Hard to even know where to begin! Absolutely LOVED the tales of Wayside School growing up from the missing floor to three Eric's to Mrs. Jewl's crazy experiments, and I feel like its incredibly humorous satire played a very fundamental role in developing me into the sarcastic man-child my family and friends know me as today! (My wife is a big fan of the books as well but maybe not so much on what she's now left dealing with in a husband)These books were some of the very few I repeatedly checked out of the school library because they were always worth a re-read. The best part about them is the layers in the simple yet chaotic stories that reveal themselves in different forms as you grow older! I found my way back to this set recently when I decided it was time for my 8-year old niece (who is starting to discover her own passion for reading) to get her first exposure to the amazingness these stories offer up! And in a proud Uncle moment, she literally was nose deep in the first book of the set as quickly as she woke up the next morning, already telling her parents how much shes loves it!! The funny thing is, buying this set invoked so many nostalgic feelings in me that I almost didn't want to give it to her! Could not be happier though knowing that I could bring a whole new generation into the crazy world of Sachar and excited to borrow these once my niece is done!

I read the first book when I was in third grade (I’m 40 now) and fell in love with it. I got it for my kids along with the other two and it’s even better than I remember. I can’t tell which book I like the best, they’re so well-written and creative!In 2020 he came out with a 4th book and it was…disappointing. More like bad fan fiction that was trying to hard. Delighted to find the three book set because the 4th book is a waste of paper and shelf space.

My 10 year will only read fact books. It took a lot of convincing to have him try this series. However, after the first few chapters he was hooked. He said it was silly and funny and it made him laugh. He’s asking for more of them. Success!

I remember reading these as a kid and got the set for my first grade daughter. The short chapters and quirky yet fascinating characters have her hooked!I even remember some of the stories as soon as the character is mentioned!

Speaking as an elementary teacher I will always LOVE and recommend these books. They have fun stories that students will enjoy. I read some of it to kindergarteners who enjoyed it, though it is geared toward third grade and older. There is also subtle messaging in the books for teachers and reminders to be the best that you can. I have bought multiple copies of these books over the years in order to give away to other teachers.

The Wayside School Boxed Set is a great set to get for the kid who loves comedy. I read The Sideway Stories from Wayside School when I was a kid, and was thrilled to see the Louis Sachar had continued the series. The stories are short, charming, funny, and just enjoyable. Even as an adult, I find the stories about Mrs. Jewels and her class of zany kid characters just a joy to read. The stories can be read aloud to kids or works as a great chapter book for solo readers. Both my 7 and 8 year old enjoy the series, so much that we purchased a set for both my kid's respective classes this year. If you're looking for a good short story set, this is a great set to gift or get for your kids.

I recommended this book to my daughter because I loved it as a kid. We borrowed it from the library at first but she loved it so much that she wanted her own copies. We read this all the time. The chapters are short but there are some challenging words for 2nd graders. My daughter is 8 now and she still loves reading these books. This is one of those books you could re-read many times, just flip open and read any chapter. Guaranteed to give you a laugh.

Bought this box set after reading favourable reviews and was not disappointed. The stories are quirky and short enough to hold a young reader's attention. My 8-year-old daughter was so keen to find out what was next that she read the books all by herself (except for the first couple of chapters which were read by her Dad.) She asked me what a couple of words meant and was keen to discuss the stories with me. The stories are exciting, well-written, and fun.
