Trees of Western North America (Princeton Field Guides)

Illustrations are wanting.
This guide is well organized and contains useful information. The illustrations appear to be drawn by a dedicated novice, the line work and shading is fuzzy. By contrast, the smaller and lighter National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Trees Western Addition provides all photographs, of consistent quality and clarity. The content is virtually the same.Amazon didn’t show the Audubon guide in the initial product pages. As with all Amazon, search the larger internet first to flush out what more is available in the world.

Excellent at home guide
This is not a field guide - the book is somewhat large for that - but it's a wonderful at home guide to help identify trips you've seen. Rather than photos it uses really nice line drawings that often give a better sense of the leaves, bark, and fruit.

A beautiful Guidebook
This is a solid, handsome book, with detailed descriptions and illustrations that make it easy to browse through. A serious botanist will surely find it useful; an amateur can learn from it; almost everyone will enjoy leafing through (no pun intended), and learning about our local trees.

This book belongs in every-ones's library. Unlike so many clones on the subject, it's informative and complete very well illustrated.
