VERY WELL WORTH READING
The book is written by a half Turkish half English young lady, clearly looking for her own identity through her very beautifully and knowledgably documented travels to the four corners of the now gone Ottoman Empire, that in factstill exists, through the Turkish language still spoken and used in daily life in Greece, Romania, Lebanon, Israel, Armenia, Syria, and other parts of the old Ottoman Empire. It is written with love and humour and compassion.Very well worth reading if the reader is from any of the countries that once belonged to the rich and benevolent Empire.

An informed introduction to Turkey and its history.
An interesting and enjoyable series of sketches introducing the reader to Ottoman and Turkish influence over the last six hundred years or so. An earlier reviewer know as "a customer" achieved a student-like rant almost as long as the book itself while misunderstanding its purpose. Perhaps he could spend his time more profitably in writing his own book on the subject when he graduates.

Excellent
An intelligent, beautifully told book on the Turkish diaspora and about the writer's place within it. I put off reading this book earlier because I made the mistake of giving credence to a review on Amazon which criticised this book. How wrong was I. Yes, there is a slip where the writer referred to Lebanon's Six Day War but that is to ignore the insightfulness at work in this book, the curiosity at play and the gems of awareness and knowledge which turn up in every page. I thoroughly recommend it.

Wonderfully written personal journey!.
The author's writing is superb and her description of her personal encounters is enchanting. This is an excellent introduction to areas much too little known by too many.

Exciting, absorbing and enlightening
I thoroughly enjoyed this - a great mix of history, its impact on the present world and the personal stories of the characters the author met on her travels. Not sure what qualifies other amazon reviewers to disparage the prose, but I found it very well written! Highly recommended.
