"Glow" is the operative word
Fair is fair - I bought these for a grade school project, so I didn't want to pay a bunch, and I did NOT test them at home first. The flashlights give a GLOW - that's it. You really have to be creative about what you interpret as a glow, or simply a bit of light coming from the flashlight. It's pretty weak. So it was a disappointment. A totally dark room wasn't even helpful, except for a bunch of kids enjoying a bit of time in the dark. However, there was much fun in shining the lights here and there to see what might "glow" more than other things. They ended up being something akin to party favors that just shine in the dark - I guess you can call that aspect versatility. And there were muliple case cover colors that gave the kids a happy choice as to which one they wanted to use for the experiment (making a rock glow). They went home with someone, and no doubt some mother is enduring the question, "Is this glowing, Mom?" I can't speak to the battery life, as I abandoned my purchase to children's whims. The children WERE able to easily use them (turning them on and off). So, pay for a pricier flashlight, and you will be much happier, if you really want to make a discovery or have a true teachimg moment. We did learn how to research on the internet if this flashlight made something glow or not, and whether or not it glowed like the examples on the internet. I guess we can call it versatile, and I guess the entertainment value was good. There were 3 lights and batteries for each.
