Everyday is #ThrowbackThursday with this book.
The Ruggles are a large, happy family, living in the working class quarters of a small town in Sussex, England. The book follows the adventures of the members of the Ruggles family as they go from one eventful incident to the other. Eve Garnett captures what it’s like to be a poor family in England at the start of the 20th century with her illustrations, the dialogue, and her lively descriptions of life in the town at the time. On reading the book, it feels as if one has been transported to an older time and is able to watch scene after scene unfold in front of one's very eyes.

Delightful. Sparks joy!
Got for light reading, started yesterday, finished today, am totally happy & now trying to find the rest in the series. The characters are adorable, the stories are fun, the writing makes it a piece of actual literature, of the enjoyable & very readable kind.If your kids don't like it (unlikely, but who knows), read it yourself & pass it on to a friend.Would be great for reading out loud, and the writing makes it worthwhile for absolutely all ages. With rent, the environment, energy & general cost of living, the book may be more relevant today than some years ago. The main characters are a working class family where the mother runs her own laundry business from home, and apart from them being totally lovable, they just don't have very much money. The kids have to actually make do, wear hand me down clothes, be creative (or enterprising) & can't have everything, which makes having something sometimes even more precious.

Best Family Oriented Children's book
The Family from One End Street is one of the best family oriented children's book I have ever read. I have been reading it since I was 14 years old and pass it on to my friends whenever possible. Eve Garnett gives personification to the pages as she tells the story of a real family experiencing real challenges and having fun doing it. I would recommend this book for all ages. I look forward to the sequel "Further Adventures of the Family from One End Street" being available for purchase on Kindle.

Recommended for children of all ages
I first read this as a small girl in the '50s and was enchanted. It came out of the school library and I couldn't bear to return it. Recently I remembered it for some reason, but only the title and how much I'd liked it, but absolutely nothing about the book. Googling it, I was delighted to find it's still on the go and re-reading was a delight. These children are totally believable and real and the illustrations are affectionate and witty. You have to make allowances for the social outlook and politics of the 1930s; it is, in fact, a slice of social history, and I hope to re-read it many more times. Recommended for children of all ages lol :D
