Very detailed book
Wow, I wasn't expecting this - I own a lot of Elsa Beskow books and have to say the huge amount of text in this one surprised me. There's a lot going on and I have to say, I would recommend it for ages 5 and up, not younger. A bit too much text for my taste. What you get however is beautiful - there are a lot of songs the different characters sing to the main character of the story. Christopher meets September in the shape of a little boy and he shows him around his garden and teaches him a new way of seeing all the fruits and vegetables during harvest time. The illustrations are beautiful, as with all Elsa Beskow books and will surely mesmerize children and encourage them to find the fruits and veggies portrayed in the book in real life. The poems used could very well be used for finger plays, puppet play, story and circle time - even without reading the entire book.Lovely story - just a bit too text heavy for my taste.

Beautiful book with unusual song sequences!
My daughters love this book. I should mention that they are Waldorf schooled and their screen time is pretty limited, so any book probably seems like a carnival ride...But seriously, Elsa Beskow's books are beautifully illustrated and, aside from the Britishisms (translated in the UK), and somewhat arcane floral choices, (nasturtiums!), it's a good book. One warning, there are songs in the book which my children make me sing. The lyrics must have lost something from the Swedish, because I cannot make them sound musical. Future editions should come with a CD!

I am very happy I was able to find the full size version of this book on Amazon. It is a beautiful book with a fun story. We love Elsa Beskow books for the style of her art. The story is a bit longer than many other children's books so it is more fun to read to children a little older, 3 and up.

Wonderful Fall Picture Book
This is an old-fashioned, beautiful picture book. A family treasure. You don't find many books like this anymore in the States. I'm happy they are still selling it. It is a beautiful, whimsical tale of Summer changing to Autumn. The children learn the names of plants and trees and fruits and enjoy the story. Highly recommended for all ages, even the very young.

Beautiful
These books and illustrations could not be more beautiful. Every child should be exposed to at least one Elsa Beskow book, preferable more.
