Vionnet (Japanese Book)

I've seen people using this book for making patterns, but I haven't tried it yet. The book I got was in wonderful condition, it is in Japanese so google translate will be handy. Very excited!

The book's text is in Japanese, but I am mainly interested in the patterns. The garments are diagrammed clearly with a grid, marked out to scale on a 10cm grid. Match-points are designated with Roman letters. Next to these diagrams are assembly-drawings which are so clear that, for a beginner seamstress, no other instructions are necessary. For the Vionnet aficionado who wants to admire the work, the large Betty Kirke book is the one to own, but for the aficionado who wants to actually reproduce the work of the great designer, this is the one to buy. The seller sent a used copy that was in brand new condition. He is located in California, not Japan like the other sellers. I strongly recommend him.

This is exactly what I was hoping for, I took one star off because some of the pictures (they're all black and white) are dense/too dark and impossible to see detail (B/W pictures of a black dress for example). It is a slim-ish paperback but packed with inspiration. Definitely a good companion to the Betty Kirk book. I cannot comment on the quality of the instructions, they're all in Japanese, but if you've sewn from other similar type Japanese sewing books you know what you're in for. The instruction illustrations seem sufficient. Highly recommend.

I can only second the other reviews of this book. It's one thing to admire Vionnet's work, it's another to figure out the patterns and reproduce them. You do not need language to read this book. Just remember, a superimposed grid square is 10cm, and draw one square at a time (that's what my art teacher taught us in 1975 and it still applies to scaling up any drawing today). These designs are timeless, and this book is priceless.

This book has text which is written entirely in Japanese, and rather poor quality black and white photos. For the Vionnet aficionado who wants to admire the work of the great designer, the large Betty Kirke book is the one to own. But for the Vionnet aficionado who wants to actually *reproduce* the work of the great designer, this is a must-have.Each gown which is diagrammed in those useless diagrams in the Kirke book is given here in a clear gridded cutting diagram, marked out to scale on a 10cm grid. Match-points are designated with Roman letters. And accompanying these diagrams are assembly-drawings which are so clear that, for a moderately accomplished seamstress, no other instructions are necessary. From this book, you can make the dresses. Ideally, one should own both books, and consider this one a companion volume to Betty Kirke's.

I wanted a Vionnet book for recreation. At first I had the Betty Kirke book in my wishlist, but found this little one before I purchased and I am happy I did. As noted this book is written in Japanese but anyone familiar with working with historical pattern books will find no problem working with this book. I really liked the garments that the author decided to use, they are easy to make appear modern . 28 patterns are included. With easy to understand sewing directions. Granted its in another language and this book is not for beginners but I believe the diagrams are clear enough to replicate.So is it worth it? Yes.

Einfaches Paperback, mit zusätzlichem Schutzumschlag, ca. DIN A4 groß und 1 cm dick, glattes, leicht gelbliches Papier, ziemlich dünn und etwas durchscheinend, komplett auf japanischEnthalten sind 28 Modelle (von 1917-1937), jeweils mit Foto der genähten Modelle an Schaufensterpuppen und verkleinertem Schnittmuster mit 10cm-Raster zum Übertragen sowie Zeichnungen zu Arbeitsschritten, die Schnitte haben unterschiedliche Styles und Schwierigkeitsgrade;die Darstellung ist auf das nötigste beschränkt mit Buchstaben zur Markierung, welche Teile aneinander gehören und wenigen japanischen Worten (z.B. Armloch), die sich gut per Google Translate übersetzen lassen, für Schnittkonstruktions-Interessierte alles in allem gut verständlich;Eine tolle Schnitttmustersammlung -für mich ist das Buch super (wegen meiner Größe muss ich sowieso alle Schnitte anpassen); glücklicherweise gibt es in Hamburg Samstagvormittags einen Markt in Altona, wo fliegende Händler Satinstoffe für 2-5€ pro Meter anbieten, da kann man die tollen Schnitte kostengünstig ausprobieren:-)

It's Japanese - but I knew it would be. The patterns are clear and scalable, however - which isn't the case for the English Vionnet! Came sooner than expected and stated.

ヴィオネの考えたパターンが大きいので、縮小図が載っていてもコピーできず、なら自分で引いていこうと思ってもこおの縮尺図だと正確な寸法がのっていないので、自分で作ってみたいと思う人にはちょっと不便。
