Great dock for video conferencing
I got this USB-C / lightning dock first and foremost for video conferencing (VC). During the COVID-19 work-from-home period, which is unlikely to end anytime soon for me, I need to do VC a solid 5-8 hours every day. Using tinny laptop speakers and the built-in webcam just wasn't cutting it -- not to mention having to plug/unplug lots peripherals every time I wanted to move the laptop. So I searched for a good USB-C dock that would charge, have ethernet, a good noise-cancelling mic, and better speakers than laptop speakers. This came out on top, by far. Firstly, the Bang & Olufson speaker is very good for VC -- voices come through very clear and natural (modulo the quality of the mics people are using on the other side). The mic is also nice -- I did a comparison VC with my laptop's mic and this dock's mic and it is night-and-day better clarity, lack of any background noise, etc. Other nice features: you get about 100W of juice to charge your laptop; you get a USB-C port for another peripheral, as well as three standard USB ports. Gigabit ethernet (essential for a good VC setup to avoid dropped wireless packets). One thing to note is that this does NOT have an HDMI input, so you'll need DisplayPort or an adapter from DisplayPort to HDMI if that's all your monitor supports. The final nice thing is that there are little touch-sensitive buttons on the top of the dock for mute, volume up/down, and call/hangup. These are _great_ during VC calls because you don't have to go fumbling around with your mouse trying to find the right icons to click on and so on -- there are dedicated physical buttons that make it really easy to quickly mute or control the volume. I've used this with four different laptops and all work well, with a couple caveats. Windows laptops work great -- a Surface Book 2 and an HP Spectre work perfectly. Plug in, it's recognized, the external webcam is recognized and setup (a Logitech BRIO), and Bob's Your Uncle. With a Lenovo X1 with a Debian Linux variant installed, it also works perfectly. A Pixelbook Chromebook works well as well -- except that once in a while the webcam isn't recognized and I need to unplug and plug in the dock and reboot the Chromebook. This typically happens if I unplug it and plug it back in shortly afterward without any reboots. Annoying, but tolerable - once it's connected and working it's fine as long as it isn't unplugged. I tend to use the Chromebook with the dock the most since it has good video codec support for VC via Google Meet, but I've also used it a good bit with Zoom on Windows laptops and it works well with that as well. Honestly, this is one review where there's really not much negative I can say -- this dock is pretty close to perfect for VC and peripheral support. If there was one thing I'd change it'd be to add HDMI support, but it's easy to work around with a $20 adapter in the worst case so it's not that big a deal.

Excellent when it works but prone to failure - buy the extended warranty!
This is my second thunderbolt dock, and my second thunderbolt dock that failed. When it worked it was great! Plenty of juice to charge laptops, thunderbolt connectivity for my primary display, and leftover ports for other items. The sound feature was great as well. The problem though is that the speaker stopped working a year after I bought it. I learned my lesson from my first failed HP dock and bought the extended warranty with the second dock. Glad I did! I bought my dock during the pandemic and it cost $430 for the this model with the sound included . 3 star review because for that price I should get more than a year's life. Even though, I'm using my warranty refund to buy another HP G2 dock (without the sound) so the product otherwise fits my needs very well.

It broke, but I got good customer service.
I bought this 6 months ago. It failed last week. I used the IM customer service from the HP website. The tech ordered a replacement unit when the he realized that the unit was not recoverable. I got the replacement in 2 days. I realize that things break, that is why I pay attention to the warranty when I buy something. It is how you are treated when the inevitable happens. HP did the right thing, and I will continue to be an HP customer. I like to scan the negative ratings to see how a companies customer service treats its customers before I buy. For the port replicator, it works well. I bought this as a docking station port replicator. I get KVM and internet with a single USB-C plug in. I wasn't expecting the sound/mic for zoom meeting to be as good as it actually is. Nice bonus. When it failed, I learned just how much I like this unit. If I needed another one, I would buy this one. I only gave it 4 stars because it did fail. I am very happy with the unit.

REFURBISHED BUT SOLD AS NEW - Product fails -HP Warranty Expired Years Before Item Purchased by me
This item is not new and is, at least in my case, a faulty item that was refurbished. I contacted HP (I have premium support as I rely heavily on devices and PC's for my work). HP informed me that this was not a new device (based on the serial number), and was in fact a device that was returned to them years before I purchased it as new on Amazon, from HP! I am usually careful about not buying items from third party sellers, and checked to see that this item was in fact sold by and shipped by AMAZON, and was listed as New. Unfortunately, it was not new and I am outside my return window.

Excellent build quality and features.
Brilliant sound and vast improvement over the laptop's microphone for Skype calls. I'm running a 30" Dell monitor at 4K resolution on my Dell Precision with Quadro T2000. Had an external HD on top of that. Laptop complains that it's a slow charger but with my normal usage (which is a bit abusive with various Adobe products + VS + Skype + Chrome + mail and more stuff (all translate to heavy usage and battery drain) the dock had no problem charging the Dell over the USB Type 3 port. So far I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Also, you can disconnect the cable it's not hard connected. There's a Phillips head screw in the back, take that off and the bottom ring comes out and you can disconnect it. As it is, the length of the cable is more than enough for me.

Great buy compared to direct from Hp
High quality docking station with integrated sound system. Only uses one port on the Laptop, so that is a big plus on thinner units needing ports for mouse, etc
