Gustav Klimt: Art Nouveau Visionary

I made a quilt using Gustav Klimt designed fabric. The book is a gift to add to the quilt. It was everything and more than I expected!

Bought it for the coffee table but it ends up on my reading stand because I can’t take my eyes off of it! Great text solid biographical research and outstanding reproductions

I bought this book on Klimt as the other reviews mentioned the good size of the book and the lovely pictures of art. It is all that. For a reasonable price, this book is perfect. A great buy.

I never knew much about Klimt personally or artistically. This book details his life and his paintings.

Beautiful, strong reproductions of his work, along with valuable biographical information. Klimt's work is striking and beautifully eccentric. I wish more people were aware of it. Often he is seen as more of an "illustrator," just as Andrew Wyeth has been in the 20th C. But Klimt's vision is unique and strange and aesthetically unusual. This book does a respectable job of presenting what he created with a wonderful balance of word and visual image. I always wish the paper used on these kinds of books was THE very best in the universe, but the cost would be far higher. Nonetheless, the cost was reasonable and I am pleased with the results.

This book is amazing. The book is large and the pictures are beautiful, with some duplicated and parts enlarged so you can see the detail that Klimpt envisioned. It is not very expensive and worth every penny. You would normally think a book like this would go for fifty dollars or more, so for the price and pictures of his works it's a steal. Happy I purchased it.

This is one of the most beautiful and informative books I have read on Klimt and the Secession Art Period. The plates are gorgeous. It is oversized and very inexpensive for the great quality of the book. Great product !

This is a fine book to get a good sampling of Klimt's work. He was indeed quite a visionary. This book will entice you into his work and his story. Klimt's story is so fascinating, as is the story of his works after his death, I wish that this book both told the fuller story and showed a more complete catalog of his work. It is still a very good book, especially for the price, to give you more than a glimpse of this artist's work. If you find yourself wanting to know and see more, then this book will have served its purpose well. It's just what art does.

After reading other reviews for this book I have to admit that I am a bit dissapointed with it. I expected outstanding pictures of very high quality whereas they are just as you would expect to find in a book around the £15 mark. I prefer the reproductions in 'Gustav Klimt Landscapes by Stephan Koja'. One thing that I actually dislike about this book are the pages of detail taken from complete pictures that also appear elsewhere. I like to see magnified or actual size reproductions of paintings so that it's possible to see the brushwork etc, but that isn't the case here. The blow-ups are generally of inferior quality to the complete picture and to my mind aren't even the most important or interesting parts of the original paintings. For example the detail from 'The three ages of Woman' reproduces the section from the feet of the single standing woman upto the feet of the baby. Other selections are equally bizarre such as in the chapter titled 'Judith And The Others'. The reproduction of the actual Judith II painting measures only 65mm x 135mm [including the frame]. The full page detail on the facing page shows the golden tree on her shoulder a large area of black and a tiny glimps of the side of her face.I'm not saying that it's badly written but I found the style of writing a little bit too prosy for my taste but that is a personal opinion and I have found some paragraphs quite interesting.Don't get me wrong it's not a bad book but neither is it a breathtaking one to look at and for me not a great piece of literature.I've given it 4 stars but I would rate it closer to 3 1/2 stars; unfortunately 1/2 stars aren't an option.

Bought for a female friends 30th. She is a fan of Klimt and loved this book. Contained many pics she had never seen before and due to the size of the pages detail wasn't lost.

A beautifully presented soft-cover coffee table book, with stunning reproductions and most informative well written material. Enough said.

Beautiful book if you want to know about Klimt. But I wanted more pictures. Makes a great coffee table book. Front cover is designed well. Great for research
