depressing, not as enlightening as siddhartha
I really enjoyed Siddhartha that Hesse wrote it felt positive and peaceful, I did wonder about the type of man that wrote it, was he that serene himself to be able to describe the inner calm so well. After reading Steppenwolf I came to the conclusion that he may have serene moments, but he is human and he too has a shadow side. He wrote about his shadow in this book, and as he explained in the introduction he wrote it when he was about 50 years old and going through struggles himself, he does describe the struggles through his character, Steppenwolf, very creatively as he tries to live with his shadow side positively.I actually skimmed the book, so I got a feel for it without getting depressed myself, I found the character is quite critical of himself, I enjoyed the part where he describes being in an amusement house and has to face himself and his life, and killing his love, it was like he almost found the answer to amalgamated his positive and negative parts...but then didn't seem to quite get there. We all have to live with our shadow side and I believe the easiest way to do that is through acceptance and integration of all the parts of ourselves, so to conclude I do agree with the philosophy behind this book.

I am a wolfman
I stole a few choice ideas and borrowed the idea as did Bob Calvert from Hawkwind to use on one of my songs on Steve Bastado album CENTURION 29110
