power probe is truly the best.
I bought this so it could work in conjunction this my other power probe. It works fantastic. I've added this to my arsenal. Power probe actually has YouTube video to show you exactly how it works. Once you use it a couple times you will get the hang of it. I have found shorts on vehicles ATVs RVs. Behind panels and no one would have ever thought it was there. I found possible shorts in the future that I was able to repair before giving me issues. it gives you everything you need from extended wires ,attachments ,different plugs it's a fantastic . probe you're the best.

This product will pay for itself many times over.
I've seen this used on YouTube to find a break in wiring so I figured I'd better get it. This thing paid for itself the first time I needed it. My Dodge Charger came home with one headlight not working. So I figured it was a simple bulb change, nope! It was something with the wiring. I brought the Power Probe out and traced the headlight wiring back to the module and bingo, found a bad connection at the module. I know if I had taken my Dodge to an electrical specialist, it would have costed me for sure. Great product to add to your tool arsenal!

You still need to understand electricity
I bought this to help me trace a short in the rear defrost circuit of my car. I have a decent understanding of electricity, but I have a hard time finding grounds and shorts. In the end this product helped push me to find the trouble, but it didn't pinpoint it exactly. For example when I disconnected the rear defrost wires at each end and injected the signal at the fuse panel, I got a signal along both the ground wire and the lead wire. I didn't understand it at the time, but the two wires had shorted to each other in the wiring harness, a fact that would have made sense earlier to someone with better electrical troubleshooting knowledge. It took me a couple of hours to find the trouble and to understand the Power Probe signals, but at least I found it. I bought this to hopefully avoid tearing into wiring harnesses, but in the end I had to open several harnesses and track individual wires to find the trouble. I'm giving 4 stars because the Power Probe helped push me to find a problem when the dealer wanted $100 just to look at it, and I know the dealer would have replaced the whole wiring harness that I simply repaired. So in the end it saved me money and helped increase my electrical skills.

Power Probe ECT2000 Short Open Circuit Detector
I've purchased the Power Probe ECT2000 Short Open Circuit Detector. I'm using this tool for the first time, So far So Good! The you-tube video is excellent to start you off, to see if you would need or would like to purchase this tool. A DVD video is included with purchase. This tool works hand in hand with the Power Probe III, which is an asset. I give it a high rating at this time. Thank You

you need to understand automotive industry.
After about 2 days of searching for the short that keept blowing the fuse for the reverse lights I found it under the Hood fuse box, someone put a jumper wire in the place of a relay and the jumper wire heated the wire underneath until it coudnt hold the amperage and when the wire melted it also melted wires that where next to it. This job took so much time because I do not have the wire diagram for the vehicle and second the fuse box under the dash does not have the cover that tells you what each fuse is for. Also a test light and a multimeter where used. Without this type of device to give you some kind of indication of a wire harnest direction of electrical flow you can wind up going crazy and still never find the short or open wire. If available I will post potos of the vehicle and open wire harnest.

OMG, awesome
I am an automotive tech. I was hoping for a way to track electrical problems and decided to spend my Christmas present money on it. I am not sorry i did, I have used it a couple of times now and have been surprised at how accurate and easy to use it is. I started with a Saturn who's power seat didn't work. After 3-4 minutes of setting up the tool, I found the short to ground in shorter time than it took to repair the problem, that's less than 5 minutes. The wire was rubbed through on the floor board under the kick panel and sill guard. That is not a place you would check right away. Anyway, this tool has paid for itself with just 2 repairs.

It DID NOT find the short
I consider myself an advanced shade-tree mechanic. Bought this tool to find a short in a pickup truck turn signal circuit. Although this product was instrumental in the overall process, it DID NOT find the short itself. Contrary to the simplistic representation in YouTube and included instructional videos, it's a rather confusing tool to use. I expected it to do as advertised. I connected and began the process of searching for the short - it was more like a wild goose chase. The machine frequently presented false positives. Having worked with the tool for 5+ hours over the course of two days, I finally grasped how it worked and the logic behind its functionality -- it has limitations. For me, the tool's value was only to show whether I had eliminated the short or not, (open or closed circuit). I finally found the short the old fashion way - by inspecting every wire loom I could get my hands on. The short was under the dash where a sharp edge on the parking brake peddle assembly pierced a thick wire loom. To the contrary, the tool had me chasing the short outside the cab. In order to effectively find a short with this tool or alike, you really need an electrical schematic for the vehicle you're working on. That way you can trace through the proper wire looms and avoid going down the wrong path. In closing, this tool is not the magic bullet it's claimed to be, but it was helpful in the overall process.

Power Probe ECT2000 Short Open Circuit Detector
This is a great addition to my growing arsenal of tools to work on electrical issues that arise in the shop. Have only used this unit once so far and it worked great at verifying that circuit was good (chasing a DTC on a sensor and wanted to eliminate bad wire as possible issue) I have the Power Probe 3 kit with the extra leads and in combination with the various lead connections that come with this kit, there is virtually no configuration of test setup I can set up..love it! I work with another tech and he was at first kind of skeptical about these kits I was getting, but now seeing what they do as well as all the different ways you can use these leads, he is impressed. I just picked up a pc based scope and will be using the various leads from Power Probe kits with it as well! For anyone out there that have to deal with electrical automotive issues, you can't go wrong with these kits from Power Probe!
