I smell natural gas in my house, and am wondering if that is the same as explosive gas? Will it detect natural gas?

As someone who went through firefighter 1 and 2 and got certified, yes. Natural gas will be detected by an "explosive gas detector." These detectors detect when natural gas or propane is approaching a percentage of the "Lower Explosive Limit", the percentage of the gas that needs to fill the airspace for combustion to occur. Since the two gases are different but are usually detected by the same sensor, they will go off for the gas that has a lower LEL for safety. If it goes off, leave your house imediately and call 911 for the fire department. Yes Natural gas has additives that make it smell like rotten eggs, but you can get used to this smell or it can be scrubbed entirely from the gas by dirt/soil. The latter is the cause of unexpected explosions in neighborhoods you may have periodically heard about in the news. Only way to know for sure is a detector.

is this an explosive gas and carbon monoxide detector? it only says "carbon monoxide detector" on the actual product.

you may own Kidde 900-0076-01 KN-COPP-3 which looks similar but only detects carbon monoxide.

For sure will be able to hear it.7 out of 10 sound level .

what happens if you do not use the battery at all?

It beeps constantly says LB or Low Battery. Basically annoys you to death until you unplug and get a battery
