Christopher's Diary: Secrets of Foxworth

One of the best
I love VC Andrews! This was one of the best I’ve read from her series, and left me feeling like I really should finish the “Flowers in the Attic” series I was kind of skeptical about doing that, because I was worried the rest of them wouldn’t live up to my expectations. I am happy to say I was wrong and will DEFINITELY be reading the rest!

Read flowers in the attic first
If you know the flowers in the attic story, this is a real good book.

Mighty Fine for my taste!!
So I want to say that I'm almost done with this novel. It has been a great read so far! Kristen likes to reflect on Christopher's Diary. It's almost like she falls in love with who he is in the Diary. I find her thoughts and reflections refreshing because she is thinking the same things as the reader. Together with Kristen we can try to understand why that happened to the twins and Catherine and Christopher. The Dialogue in the Diary parts are a little different then how Catherine wrote it in Flowers in the Attic. But what can you expect from that? They remember the situation in different perspectives. Everyone remembers something in a different way then other people. Kristen's confusing relationship with Kane is very fascinating. I'm excited to see where they end up. Anyhow, the book is a good read. Don't pick up the book and dismiss it has a joke on the lovely Virginia Andrews. Give it a chance, go through the reflections with Kristen as if you were there with her. It is a good book, but is pales in comparison to the Original series (FITA, Petals, Thorns, Seeds, and Garden of Shadows). But this book is worth reading, and it's nice to know Christopher's perspective on the Situation. People are saying that Christopher is a Know-it-all and a snob in this book when he wasn't in FITA. He was though! He was so rude to Catherine in Flowers that it made me so angry at times. But once he falls for Catherine he changes and becomes more sensitive. I'm hoping that is what happens in the Diary for I haven't read that far. I think it will. Men are different then women. Men think about sex every 59 seconds so it is not usual for Christopher to be having those thoughts. And when your locked in an attic for 3 years with these urges they scream to be released. I'm actually impressed by the restraint he had while he was in the attic for I'm sure it wasn't easy to stay in control of himself. I think the Ghost Writer needs to plan another story that will capture the Dollanganger fans! For Instance, what if he wrote the Diary of Malcolm. I want to know if he truly knew the kids were up in the attic. In Petals, Corrine told Catherine at the Christmas ball that Malcolm had knew all along. That he spoke awful things about the kids, and he would hit her with his cane. Then she goes all crazy and sets the mansion on fire,,, WOW! But in Garden of Shadows, Olivia says that she doesn't want Malcolm to know about the children because he might cherish them like he did Corrine because they all had the blonde hair and cerulean blue eyes. I wonder which is true. If there was a Diary from him then maybe we could find out if he knew of the children or not. Also this lovely Ghost writer could write about the love between Christopher Sr. and Corrine. I would love to know what happened with them and how it began.Last but not least is that I want to know more of Cory! The Secret Brother is so shady when it comes to him. I want to know more about Cory and how he thinks. How he copes with what he went through because I'm sure he has nightmares.Anyways, read the book and read with no judgments. Like Christopher told Catherine, If you expect the worst then you'll receive the worst

This book took me back in time, to my early teens, when I read Flowers In The Attic the first time.
I experienced my first V.C. Andrews story at 13, and it was both terrifying and fascinating. I quickly acquired books two through five and devoured them. Then again, devoured all five, at least a dozen times, probably more, in the years since. Here I am at age 49 reading book six for the first time. I bought it, plus seven and eight, for my birthday. I will buy books nine, ten, and eleven for Christmas."I was lying to myself when I told myself I could limit what I read, even for an hour, as long as I was in the same room with this diary. It had become a magical door through which I passed to enter the Foxworth attic." ... This perfectly describes my issue of being fully engrossed anytime I opened this book.Reading from a different point of view in the diary feels like I'm re-reading one of my favorite stories for the first time again. The accompanying story of Kristin who is reading the diary is classic V.C. Andrews, it's almost like two books in one and I enjoyed all of it.I'm headed into book seven now and cannot wait to see what happens.

NOT what it appears
Warning: this is NOT Christopher's Diary. It's snippets of a diary written by Christopher and read by a distant relative of the Foxworths. The book is ABOUT a new character who finds the diary. She only reads a bit- not even getting as far as Christmas the 1st year. It's nice to hear Chris's perspective but just when it gets good, we go back to the girl who found it & her life. The sequel is due in the Spring and it's easy to figure what the author is doing. The timeline also seems screwed up. We know Chris and Cathy were taken to Foxworth Hall in 1960. We know their ages. We know, reading all the books that Cathy's son, Bart, rebuilt it & Cathy died in last book. That would be about 2007, if we add right. But they refer in this book to Bart as an old crazy man. There's also the HUGE hole of Cathy's "books" mentioned in If There Be Thorns. The details just don't gel. The people of the area don't know much about the 4 kids held in the attic except rumor, but wouldn't her books have been published? And Bart shouldn't be old yet & no one mentions Jory or the party where he was paralyzed...too much left unsaid & unknown. The new character is a girl, related to them through her dead mother. One wonders if she is Bart's lovechild or if Christopher had a kid we don't know of, or if she just is related to them from afar. But it can't be that easy. The book reads okay but it's hard not to skim through to read Chris's words. It's way too short. I waited a long time for this book and was disappointed to know we weren't reading the diary ourselves. I understand needing this character but she's most of the book! I hope the sequel is better at balancing the 2, and deals more in facts and details. And the stupidity of the villagers not recalling the big party Bart threw in Seeds of Yesterday is nuts. It would've just taken place in previous years IF they were following a correct timeline. I don't like them wandering from the real story. Stay true and we'll follow, but mess up the timeline and you make a lot of fans mad. I'm already mad regarding loss of detail. The real VC Andrews wrote several very detailed books. This needs about 100 more pages and way more information about where Bart, Jory and the family went. I'll give the sequel a chance, but am praying it is better than this. If you're a huge fan, read it. See how many holes in the story YOU find!

Poor rehash of original book with boring filler
Flowers in the Attic being one of my favourite books as a teenager, I didn’t think twice about spending £4.99 on this book. The diary entries from Christopher don’t add anything new other than transformChristopher from the victim of terrible circumstances he was in the original books into a creep perving on his mum and sister. The book also has a lot of filler in the form of the experiences of a boring teenager reading Christopher’s diary and how it impacts her - I found this distracting and unnecessary. Can’t believe I spent good money on this. If I could give it a negative rating I would. So disappointed.

Intriguing concept
Having read the original flowers in the attic series I was keen to learn more of the backstory. This book provides some of that and hopefully the rest of the series will continue to do so.

Clever idea for a story
Thoroughly compelling! The comparison between the diary and the reader of it, is cleverly woven. The experience happening to her makes her question life.
