Essential winter drink
Like other reviewers, my interest in this drink was piqued when reading Girl with Dragon Tattoo. Had a chance to try it during a cruise to Norway. Loved the strong spirit with the subtle hints of spices. Much more heat than gin. Couldn’t find it in UK supermarkets, so have purchased via Amazon. Always need a bottle during winter - very palatable central heating for my body (cheaper than gas!). I sip a small glass of neat Akavit on cold nights - warming and cheering. Haven’t tried it with smoked salmon yet, and plan to do so.

A real tonic and reminder of Denmark
A lot of reminiscence in a bottle. Distinct flavour and quite difficult to source locally. Well packed and, like me, not yet drunk.Any free samples would be gratefully received

Water of life
Have been looking for proper Skandinavian schnapps for a while. Then the Hairy Bikers went to Norway. They found Akvavit and the description they gave told me this was it. I got on to Amazon and found Aarlborg Taffel Akvavit. It's not the same as the 'hairy bikers' had but it is exactly what I wanted. If you haven't tried this you just don't know what you're missing. Great service too. We're now on our 3rd bottle and there will be more... God willing
